Brazilian Embassy - Estimated Time after Interview and Medical Exams

Hello everyone,

I had my EB3 interview on November 29th, 2021 and my medical exams two days later, on December 1st, 2021. The consular officer told that everything looked correct and they would just wait for the medical exams to issue the visas.

Does anyone know how long is it taking to the Brazilian Embassy to receive the exams results and process the visas? I know usually the medical exam is made before the interview and then you take the results to the Embassy, but I think we all know that due the pandemic it's hard to get an appointment with a doctor before the date of the interview.

As of today, my case still shows as "Refused" in the CEAC website (last update: December 6th, 2021).

Thank you

Hello adp1992,

My son is going through the same process (Rio de Janeiro Consulate). His interview was on December 16. They let him know he was approved and kept his passport. But there was a medical record that was only provided on January 11. Now, the status is "refused" and we are waiting for it to change. Can you please let me know if you have gotten your visa and how long it took?

Best regards,

Mel

Hello mmdefaria,

The "Refused" status does not necessarily mean his case was refused. It will stay like this until the administration processing (medical exam review) is finished.

My case remains the same and I still don't have my passport/visa back (even though the "Case Last Updated" date changed a few times since I created this topic). My last update was on Jan 31st, 2022.

I e-mailed the consulate asking about my case and they (surprisingly) answered me after a week,  saying that they received everything they needed and that these reviews can take around 60 days. Assuming they received my medicals in early December, I'm hoping to hear something new within the next weeks.

I'll let you know if/when I get a final answer (or, hopefully, my passport with the visa) from them.

Thank you for sharing you case.

Best Regards,

AP

Hello again mmdefaria,

Just to let you know that today, Feb. 7th, 2022, my status changed to "Administrative Processing".

Honestly I'm not sure how long it will take now to actually issue my visa, but as least I can see the case is moving.

Good luck!

Best Regards,

AP

Hello again mmdefaria,

Today, Feb. 9th, 2022, my status changed to "Issued".

It seems the 60 days window (since my medicals) they gave me couple weeks ago was very accurate.

In your son's case, I'd wait this time before contacting them. (You said he had his medicals on Jan. 11th, so give it until middle/late March).

Good luck

Best Regards,

AP

Hello,

My husband had his interview on August 1, 2024 in Rio. They said everything was approved, however 3 weeks later they emailed saying that they needed to investigate more their system and if we had any further documents to send, to email. We did email more to prove that the information in their system was not correct. Because of their "investigation" they changed the status from approved to refused. This happened on August 29, 2024. Yesterday, September 25, they further updated the "last case updated" date but it still says refused, however this time around they did not send any email. Trying to understand why they would update the date if the status is still "refused"...

This is an old thread, you'd be better off starting your own new one rather than hijacking this one with your questions. But a status update just means somebody has looked at your file, nothing more. This could happen several more times before it changes to approved/issued.

This is an EB3 visa as well I assume? There's no visas available until 1st October anyway as the quota has been met for the year but hopefully if it was a simple document that was needed it won't take long after that for approval.

Good luck.

Thank you. No, this was not an EB3 visa, this was for the green card. They said the visa was approved the day of the interview, however it changed to refused 3 weeks later when they asked for another document over the email which we’ve sent. So every time someone looks at it they don’t take action on reviewing the document we’ve sent and still keep the status as “refused” without emailing us updates? It’s frustrating because we think they looked at it, the document we sent was not enough, so they kept it refused, yet did not email us with any further requests but still updated the “last date update” in there… we wonder what is happening now… what does it take for it to change to approved… and how long… I wish there was more information in their website so applicants know what to expect in terms of processing times and steps…

Normal.  If someone opens the file, it triggers a last update entry.....but it does not mean they have sent you an email.
