Ok, I logged into the USCIS website to check the status (again!) of my husband's case.

I decided to reread it more carefully, and I noticed something odd:

Application Type: I485, APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS

Current Status: Case received and pending.

On May 15, 2007, we received this I485 APPLICATION TO REGISTER PERMANENT RESIDENCE OR TO ADJUST STATUS, and mailed you a notice describing how we will process your case. Please follow any instructions on this notice. We will notify you by mail when we make a decision or if we need something from you. If you move while this case is pending, call customer service. We process cases in the order we receive them. You can use our processing dates to estimate when yours will be done. This case is at our NATIONAL BENEFITS CENTER location. Follow the link below to check processing dates. You can also receive automatic e-mail updates as we process your case. Just follow the link below to register.

It says it's at the NATIONAL BENEFITS CENTER location. Do they process I-485 at that location? I checked their processing dates - and I-485 doesn't seem to be on the list of documents they process.

They do process I-765 for I-485 cases... but I didn't file I-765 yet. Are they waiting for the I-765??

We live in Maryland and so I mailed it to:

U. S. Citizenship and Immigration Services

P.O. Box 805887

Chicago, IL 60680-4120

Did I send it to the wrong address?:huh::o

It says NATIONAL BENEFITS CENTER for everyone.

Chicago Lockbox is just a mail sorting facility, after sorting and cashing of checks there it gets sent to the NBC in Missouri for pre-processing. After that it either gets transferred to your local office, or to another service center for approval without interview.

Everything you see is normal.

EDIT: Just to say that if your get an AOS interview, the USCIS website will always indicate that your case is at the NBC.

You sent it to the right address, don't worry!

The national benefits center is in Missouri and is where all family based I-485's go when they are first recieved. From there, your case is either transfered to the california service center (CSC) or to your local office.

Do not worry! :)

I'm just wondering why it hasn't been transferred yet.

The biometrics were 6 weeks ago and hasn't been touched since.

From what I've seen on other people's signatures with personal timelines,

their cases are being transferred more quickly.

There doesn't seem to be any logic behind what cases are transfered to CSC and which aren't, nor is there any logic behind the amount of touching, or lack of touching. It seems the cases that remain at the NBC with no touches are that way usually until an interview appointment is available at their local office. At which time, your case will be transfered to that office and you will be sent an interview notice. This doesn't mean it'll happen to your case, it's what I've observed while reading through here and seeing others' timelines.

If you have to go for an interview, you will get no notice that it has been transferred to your local office.

That said, don't try to read too much into touches or the lack of them.
