Hi all,

My fiancee and I are in a difficult situation. Her visa was approved after she interviewed, however the vaccine she took is not approved by CDC or WHO (she is fully vaccinated though) so they won't let her on the flight to the US. I was wondering is there a way besides getting two additional approved shots that she can come to the US? Perhaps getting an exemption since she already took two shots? Any advice would be welcomed.

Is the required vaccine available where she is?

It is, but unfortunately it's very difficult to get two more shots for the approved vaccine since China's policy hasn't approved boosters or vaccine mixing. We're trying to find hospitals at different provinces and see if she can take it though but its been hard. But if there's another alternative that we can try that would be great too.

Go to a third country, get vaccinated.

Even better, go to a third country that provides JnJ shots. You only need one. Fly there, get the jab, and hop on the next plane to the U.S.

I agree with this, with the caveat that they also need to be sure that the third country offers vaccines to tourists and not just citizens or permanent residents. This article is a bit old but points to a few good candidates: https://www.schengenvisainfo.com/news/these-countries-are-now-offering-covid-19-vaccines-for-tourists/

Odd that the vaccine isn’t offered at the civil surgeon’s office where the medical exam was performed
