Yesterday we signed up for online access to download the tax transcripts. I see there were four different types I could download, it's the return tax transcript that looks like a long itemized receipt, is that correct?

It is the Tax Return transcript.  That is your tax return as filed in a briefer, condensed summary. No boxes or colors or user guidance like “Add lines 1-4”; just the basic info without the frills.

This. We actually sent the account transcript (which actually has more information) and ended up with a RFE. Don’t be me.

Do I use total income from transcript or adjusted gross income? For the 2020 taxes it mentions both on the form.

Also, is it ok to send the i-864 completed form and supporting evidence for the RFE by responding to it through my USCIS online account or would this be a problem because of the signature not being original but photocopied?

Thank you again in advance.

Read that part skipping the parenthetical part—

My total income as reported on my Federal Income tax returns

Only read the parentheses part if your tax return was form 1040EZ because that version  has no line called Total Income.  So they say use adjusted Gross Income since there is no Total Income Line.

And the 1040EZ ended in 2017, so your 2020, 2019, and 2018 can’t be EZ version.

@CaLi90

This is an example if you did file the last 3 years. And you are only submitting the 2020 transcript because sending in 2 more is optional.

Except don’t cross out those words or circle total Income. That was just to illustrate my explanation about what their  confusing instruction means.

Ok good to know, thanks for clarifying. I did put that with my last form but good to double check just incase.

When I re-submit the i-864 with signature, should I mail it or use the online USCIS response form. I'm not sure as I don't know whether that form can be have a photocopied signature or it needs to be original.

i noticed from your transcript you had self employment.

We will be filing our next return as soon as we get the w2, I'm not sure whether it's better to wait for that transcript, that shows 68k and is only from a single employment (no self employment).

When we sent off 2020s, there were 4 different w2's so I don't know if it's less confusing for them to send the new with just the one employment.
