Hi everyone. I have already submitted my k1 visa packet last month. Here is a summary of my current situation. I am about to graduate college this upcoming semester in May. I also live in student housing apartment style apartment as well (It was a last minute choice from a long time ago before I met my fiance).  My lease is also up in May. I was telling my fiance that I really don't want to sign a 1 year lease somewhere if I don't even know where life will take me between May and whenever he gets approved with his k1 visa. After May, I was just thinking of renting a room from someone month to month. I would want it to be long term of course, but it depends if I get better job opportunities somewhere whether it's in state or out of state. But would this be a problem if I rent a room out of someone month to month? Technically, I would be paying for everything on my own anyways. I'm just paying for the space of the room. Would USCIS disregard this however? Especially if there are 1 or 2 more random people living in the same house? But everyone is paying for their own things including their own rent?

I'm just curious. It's just so I can either prepare myself to get an apartment after my lease is up or be able to rent a room from someone month to month without it affecting my k1 visa process.

Not sure what your specific worries are but I see two issues: first, you need an address where you will actually receive any USCIS mail; changing address can lead to delivery problems. Second, your income could be an obstacle if below the threshold, so you need to look for a joint sponsor.

With the worldwide K1 backlogs, you are looking at probably 1.5-2 years of waiting for your fiance to obtain that visa. Renting a room month to month won't matter to USCIS. Just make sure you have a reliable mailing address to receive correspondence.

What they will eventually care about is your financial ability to support your future husband. You will have to provide this information when you submit the I-134 and I-864. Make your housing and career choices based on what will put you in a good financial position, to comfortably exceed the requirements on those forms. Otherwise, you will need a joint sponsor.
