CDC director: Omicron variant mostly mild so far

They are finally starting to tell the truth about omicron. But not the full truth. The fact is omicron is becoming (if it isn't already) the dominant variant. So far a statistically insignificant number people have died WITH (not of) omicron. It is effectively a mild cold. Furthermore it has been discovered omicron gives people immunity to more dangerous variants effectively meaning omicron will eventually wipe those variants out. This means covid as a whole will soon be no worse than the common cold. That being said is there really any legitimate reason to keep pushing vaccines (which are ineffective against omicron anyways), masks and lockdowns? Let's celebrate the fact that the pandemic is effectively over and get back to our lives as normal.

In response to Omicron, my employer has just reinstituted face shields (??!) in addition to the ongoing masking.

I wonder whether my rather mild cold of early December was Omicron...

06-04-2007 = TSC stamps postal return-receipt for I-129f.

06-11-2007 = NOA1 date (unknown to me).

07-20-2007 = Phoned Immigration Officer; got WAC#; where's NOA1?

09-25-2007 = Touch (first-ever).

09-28-2007 = NOA1, 23 days after their 45-day promise to send it (grrrr).

10-20 & 11-14-2007 = Phoned ImmOffs; "still pending."

12-11-2007 = 180 days; file is "between workstations, may be early Jan."; touches 12/11 & 12/12.

12-18-2007 = Call; file is with Division 9 ofcr. (bckgrnd check); e-prompt to shake it; touch.

12-19-2007 = NOA2 by e-mail & web, dated 12-18-07 (187 days; 201 per VJ); in mail 12/24/07.

01-09-2008 = File from USCIS to NVC, 1-4-08; NVC creates file, 1/15/08; to consulate 1/16/08.

01-23-2008 = Consulate gets file; outdated Packet 4 mailed to fiancee 1/27/08; rec'd 3/3/08.

04-29-2008 = Fiancee's 4-min. consular interview, 8:30 a.m.; much evidence brought but not allowed to be presented (consul: "More proof! Second interview! Bring your fiance!").

05-05-2008 = Infuriating $12 call to non-English-speaking consulate appointment-setter.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

I'm vaxxed but not boosted.  Last week I was dragging, likely because I don't sleep much on the weekend.  After I finished work on Thursday I felt like I was getting a cold.  Runny nose and weeping eyes.  Took Nyquil and slept all night, and stayed in bed most of Christmas eve.  Christmas day I slept a fair amount too, staying warm and doing very little.  By Sunday I felt much better but still managed an afternoon nap.  Monday I felt better than I had all year!

By Monday my wife started feeling sick.  She is not vaxxed.  It's hitting her a lot harder than it did me.  Makes me wonder if we are dealing with Omicron.

Should probably have her tested, but on the other hand, what's the point?  Not going to change anything.

My son is a PA and works in the local ER.  When I talked to him Monday night he said they saw a huge number of people with COVID that day, but did not have to admit any of them.  Told them to go home and treat it the same as the cold or flu.

Sounds like some friends of ours in NE.  My wife’s best friend from back in Russia lives there with her husband.  Her husband is vaxxed, but she is not, both developed symptoms, her’s worse, but they are both recovering.

That's certainly where were headed, if this new mild variant remains the dominate, it's my  prediction Biden and the Democratic party will change course and claim an end to the pandemic and the start of a endemic, with Biden taking a victory lap, it's the only chance the party has in salvaging seats in the House and Senate this coming election year, and the mainstream media will shift course as well, after all, they are the propaganda wing of the Democratic party.

I see this going one of two ways. Either covid effectively comes to an end and the left claims a victory or they release a worse virus so they can say "I told you so" and clamp down on us more.

All bets are of with this variant, masks etc are not effective, so it is more when you will get it, hermits excepted.
