My fiancé recently arrived in the US and we recently had our wedding. I called my insurance company and they said they needed a SSN to add her to my insurance. I called the Social Security office and they were telling me I can get a SSN without an EAD… I have an appointment to go to the Social Security office this week. Is an valid I-94 / Active K1 Visa / Birth Certificate enough for us to get a social security number? And if not, how else can I get one?

First it's nonsense that they need an SSN. They can and should use a placeholder instead until your wife has her SSN. Escalate it to a supervisor until you get to somebody who knows their job.

She should apply for the SSN in her maiden namen. SSA will use the SAVE database to match your wife's information with Homeland. Often people run into problems if the names don't match because of marriage.

Birth certificate, passport with the visa and the I-94 should be all she needs.
