Ughh so I'm new at all of this. My Husband and I are 26 years old and we waited for 14 months to get a case approval from Potomac service center. Well i messed up on our case (I didn't know what adjustment of status was vs consular processing so I put an address in BOTH spots *FACEPALM*) so they think my husband is in the US. So I filed an I824 to the Chicago lockbox to get our case transferred to NVC. But the wait times on that can take another year from what I hear (3 months if I'm lucky).... Was wondering if I can file another I30 (correctly this time!) as it might process more quickly then the I824? Figured I would try to have the two forms in competition to see which one gets approved first lol. But I wanted to ask this chat forum if this is possible before doing something so reckless. I'd hate to mess anything else up.

Another member is thinking of filing a new I-130.

Read the replies.

You have an approved petition. Don't complicate matters by adding another I-130 into the mix.

Wait out the process.

Hey thanks, I really appreciate it. I'll not file another since I don't want to risk my future or my husband's. I was confused because I consulted a lawyer and he said he'd do a new I130 for me (he knew I already filed the I824) so I thought it was okay but decided to double-check on here.

Hi, I'm the OP from the thread Kor2USA linked to. Based on the answers I got, just wait out the process. (after all, our mistakes led to the situations we are in) Good luck.

Thank you for your quick reply since I was already filling out a new I130, I'll delete it now LOL I have been praying we get a quick processing center. I'll definitely keep y'all updated. So sorry to hear about your situation and how long it's taking, it really sucks 😞

Also, how did you file your I824? I printed the form out, filled it out and mailed it to Chicago lockbox via USPS priority mail with a copy of my I130 and a copy of my approval notice. I hope I did that all correctly? Only thing I forgot to do was mark my envelope so I sent them an email informing them what's inside my envelope.

We are in our 14th month of waiting, but I filed it at the absolute worst possible time as all the backlogs were peaking.

We printed and filled out the form and submitted it to the Texas lockbox, as that's where we sent the original I-130. Also included the NOA2 approval.

We are in our 3rd year of the process, and looking at probably 2 more years. I'm just anxious to get the I130 over to NVC so we can submit her 601a waiver.

How long did it take you to get a receipt for your I824?

@BasitFionaAli Hi we're currently in the same situation as you were and I have just submitted our I-824 and was received by USCIS a couple of days ago. Just wondering what visa center they processed your form? Hopefully we only have to wait for a few months to get approved like you did because everywhere I look they say it takes long for their 824 to get approved. Thanks in advance!
