Expedite request through Senator's office

A little background for our NVC stage

1st submission: Aug 22, 2021

Initial review: Nov 20, 2021

We were asked to reupload 2021 tax transcript for joint sponsor. All other docs were accepted. But I've been noticing that they're taking THREE MONTHS to review cases now and that is a long time so I contacted my senator's office and they got all the files they needed by Dec 20th, 2021.

Has anyone expedited through their senator's office recently? How long did it take to get the case reviewed/sent to the embassy/DQ'ed?

I just want to know what sort of time frame we're looking at here.

Any info will be helpful

But this is normal, mine was like this in 2018.

I really don’t understand your reason to expedite.

There are a lot of cases and your case is not the only one that they are reviewing. do you have a really urgent reason to expedite your case?

Expedite is like jump the line, meaning that your case is more urgent that all other people that are in line.

I am not sure it makes much difference if your Senator is involved or if you expedite it directly

Just curious: did you do some research before submitting your immigration papers? The reason I’m asking is because it is quite strange that you think that three months is a long time. For immigration, three months is NOTHING. Either you research some, or you’ll be stressing out a lot.

In order to expedite, there needs to be a qualifying reason. Mostly health reasons concerning the USC. Unless you have a significant reason, expedites are usually unsuccessful. “Wanting to be together “ and “running out of patience” does not cut it.

From the moment you submit until your CR1 is approved is somewhere between 1-2 years.

You cannot expedite just because you're tired of waiting, or because the USCIS timeline is not to your liking.  You have to have actual, documented reasons - otherwise it is a frivolous waste of time.

Not sure what sort of timelines you expected when you filed the petition, but the entire process is likely to take two years or more.

You meant 3 years or just 3 months waiting?

Okay I feel like there has been a misunderstanding

I know the entire IR1 visa process takes 1-2 years. I'm complaining about the NVC stage in the process. It used to be a couple of weeks and now it's up to 3 months for a resubmission of 1 document. I also know that to expedite you need to have legitimate reasons, which I do.

1. I (the petitioner) have a health condition that requires me to travel back to the US by the end of January at the latest (I am now with my husband abroad) and I need my husband to be able to travel with me for physical assistance throughout the trip.

2. My husband recently got laid off from his job, so we're going through a financial hardship at the moment.

3. The country we are in is not really safe at the moment with a lot of civil unrest and violence. Even the US embassy's website has a big "DO NOT TRAVEL TO" warning due to this.

All of this is documented. My main issue is my health condition otherwise I wouldn't have filed for the expedite.

Yeah, COVID has backlogged everything. The process was already slow pre- COVID, so now it is even worse.

Unfortunately, there is nothing the Senator can do to help you. You will have to prepare all your documents and expedite yourself.

Actually, a few years ago, the minimum time at NVC was 12 weeks, then it seemed to get better.  Unfortunately, Covid has affected everything.   You can certainly submit an expedite request to NVC, although they might not consider those as valid conditions, since there is nothing to prevent you from traveling back to the US for your health issues.  Good luck.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

Unfortunately, he will not have a visa in time to travel with you, even  if NVC sends the file to the consulate today.

I agree, does not seem an obvious case to expedite and expedites are quicker bit not quick.

Does he have a tourist visa?

Asking a Senator or Representative for help does nothing to help your case

All they can do is ask for the status of your case and send you the same notice u last received

From your timeline if you wanted this case to be at interview stage faster,  u should have applied in 2019 after getting married .    U  married  1/11/2019 and waited 1 year and a half to apply in June 2020 for CR1

Some of them have staff, some have interns but you certainly can pass your request through them.
