At what point does NVC require 2021 tax documents?

Anyone wondering the same?

We're in the waiting game after submitting additional documents responding to case review notes. According to the timeframe, they're gonna get to reviewing it around February.

By that time it's going to be the new tax filing season. Would they then ask for 2021 tax documents filed?

If that's the case I'd think ridiculous since they're the one taking too long to review and the new tax season comes up in the middle of waiting and reviewing. That's never ending cycle then.

Does anyone know?

Only after the tax filing deadline -- usually April 15th.

While this is correct, the OP's question makes me wonder if submitting 2021 taxes is a problem for them.  If the concern is only further delay at NVC, I understand.  If it is that income has changed, then the Consulate should ask for both 2021 tax return and fresh evidence of current income anyway.

For the 2020 tax year, my total federal income (with unemployment benefits) was 25,521 and state total taxable income (including unemployment) was $28,627. For the 2021 tax year, my income will be well over $50,000 a year. Will it cause delays if, prior to filing my 2021  taxes , I submit to the NVC a 2020 tax transcript along with current employment paystubs as proof of income over the minimum threshold? I would rather not wait an entire month to submit my documents to the NVC but I also wouldn't want to cause delays by not attaching my 2021 tax transcript with my initial proof of income. Our I-130 just got approved today, so I am anticipating we can submit our NVC docs starting the first-second week of January 2022. Thanks

I would not expect the above to be a problem, but do upload and submit your 2021 tax return and updated pay stubs between DQ and interview.

My concern was just more delays, where NVC keeps requesting new tax year documents in the time frame around the new year and the new tax filing season. Especially since Their processing timeframe now is 3 months. That’s a whole quarter.

They won't request 2021 until after the filing deadline, but you should submit it and new pay stub between DQ and interview.

Hi, one year later we are in the exactly the same boat - we don't want to submit docs to NVC for 2021 tax and then get an RFE to also send 2022 tax. But we also don't want to wait until February until we submit docs to NVC.

What did you end up doing?
