Selective service proof I believe is only if you were here between the age of 18-26. I had the same question, but they did not ask for anything about this.

What is a Status Information Letter (SIL)?

A status information letter from the Selective Service System states the facts: Whether or not a man is registered; whether or not the man should have registered; or if he is exempt from registering.

To register with Selective Service visit their website at www.sss.gov and click "Register" and request a status information letter.  Regardless of age 0f 18-26, you will need to complete the form and mail.   One to Two weeks you will receive STATUS INFORMATION LETTER by mail.

There are a few cases when a man is exempt from the registration requirement. Men who are exempt do not have a Selective Service registration number and are in compliance with federal law. The few individuals who are exempt from this requirement are those on current non-immigrant visas. A complete list of acceptable documentation for exemption may be found below.

Failure to Register for Selective Service USCIS will deny a naturalization application when the applicant refuses to register with Selective Service or has knowingly and willfully failed to register during the statutory period. The officer may request for the applicant to submit a status information letter and registration acknowledgement card before concluding that he failed to register. The status information letter will indicate whether a requirement to register existed. The applicant must show by a preponderance of the evidence that his failure to register was not a knowing or willful act. Failure on the part of USCIS or SSS to complete the process on behalf of the applicant, however, will not constitute a willful failure to register on the part of the applicant. The denial notice in cases where willful failure to register is established may also show that in addition to failing to register, the applicant is not well disposed to the good order and happiness of the United States. This determination depends on the applicant’s age at the time of filing the application and up until the time of the oath:

Request a Status Information Letter

Complete a request form for a status information letter available here. You will have to describe, in detail, the circumstances you believe prevented you from registering and provide copies of documents showing any periods when you were hospitalized, institutionalized, or incarcerated occurring between your 18th and 26th birthdays. If you are a non-citizen, you may be required to provide documents that show when you entered the United States. Please include your name, social security number, date of birth, and return address.

Please note the following:

  • Keep your SIL ( STATUS INFORMATION LETTER ) in your permanent files for future reference.
  • Send a copy, not your original, SIL to submit with your application for state-based student financial aid, employment, security clearance, U.S. citizenship.
  • Do not send us your original documents. Only send copies of documents which you are required to send
  • You will complete the form and mail it to the address indicated on the form.

I asked my immigration Lawyer about this. He asked me if I was in the US between the age of 18 to 26. Answer was NO. He said then no need for SSR.

based on what I see here and what I heard from the lawyer, I am so confused!

Is it just me or most December fillers are moving slow?

Since that Bio waiver, it seems dead silence on my case.

According to the chart it seems many people are getting interviews. I haven’t heard nothing either myself but hopefully you and me hear something soon.

Hi fellow December filers!

I had my interview on Tuesday and I’m a bit upset, to be honest.

Everything went well overall, I passed the testing portion, we documented my intended name change, went through the entire application.

Towards the end, the officer suddenly told me that I didn’t have a current photo on file.

mind you, I had done biometrics last year for my greencard renewal and had the letter stating that I didn’t need biometrics done.

She agreed, but nevertheless, no photo.

she told me to go get that done right after we were done, she’d then recommend my file for approval and we could schedule the oath ceremony then.

i asked how long she thinks this may take and she said 3-6 months!

Like, whaaat???

We are moving out of state (and possible overseas) over the summer, so I’ll also need my passport asap.
she told me to wait for a letter that says I’m approved and to then email them and they’ll schedule me asap.

It just so happens that my husband (retiring out of the military next month) got a job offer overseas and they want him to start asap.

Now I wonder how long I should wait or if I should just email soon and ask to help me out with the scheduling.

i don’t understand what would take that long, uploading that photo or the name change?
Typically, their office does oath ceremony the same day as interview.
what do you guys think?

I am so sorry to hear that, what type of photo where they looking for? Was a passport type photo?

also strange when they say 3-6 months for a oath ceremony when they say it should only take 30 days max .

from past experience when they tell me many months it always ends up happening sooner, keep up posted.

The photo that would go onto the naturalization certificate. Typically the one you have taken at the biometrics appointment.

I had a photo retaken directly after the interview and she said I would be approved as soon as that loads into my file.

My status changed the next day but not to "approved", its now "recommended for approval and under quality review".

I hope this wont take the 3-6 months the officer mentioned but I wonder if she knew this would happen.

I'll update as soon as I hear something.

Interview was originally scheduled for 3/24 in the morning.  5 minutes before we left we received a call form USCIS officer informing us the A-file has not arrived yet and they have to cancel.

The appointment de-scheduled notice shows up a 20 minutes on the USCIS portal.

The same afternoon, we received an interview scheduled notice with a new interview date of 4/28.

I am not too sure if the file actually showed up that afternoon and they scheduled the new date?  Or if they simply rescheduled to the next available date hoping the A-file will show up then?  Any insights?

I've heard horror stories of people getting their interview cancelled the day of and rescheduled 4-5 times because the file is stuck in some underground cave with no staff to retrieve them.
