That's kind of them. From what I've gauged, sometimes they swiftly interview people in that 90 day early filing window and deny due to not meeting condition of being LPR for 3 years.

I'm hoping we all are pleasantly surprised with combo interviews and quick adjudications. The N400 has sped up or knocked loose several I751s.

Wait, seriously?! So do you think it's risky to submit prior to hitting the 3yr GC anniversary? I'll be in Potomac processing hell, so figured it was unlikely they'd interview me that fast...

I don't think it's risky at all, but  USCIS regulations say you can file both the 751 and the N400 90 days prior to their respective filing times. With the 751 you can risk filing late so not much breathing room there. I've seen N400 cases not being able to approve due to the 751 not being approved. They don't  outright deny your case though I've not seen that here in any case. They just kinda held those cases until they were able to adjudicate them. But I guess technically if you lucked out and your case got adjudicated very quick it could happen yes. But when that has happened its not been the norm. To counter that you can always hold your N400 submission until after your 751 is adjudicated and approved before you submit your N400 simple fix if you are concerned about the negligible small risk. I'm just the opposite I've seen the 751 pushed up and woke up due to the filing of the N400 while the 751 is active.

As I stated it is not the norm. Of all the hundreds of 751s and N400s that have been adjudicated together for folks here on VJ IMO the risk is negotiable. This UTube clip is kinda biased  politically, so I'd take that with a grain of salt. The solution to avoid this possibly happening is simple: hold your N400 until your 751 is approved simple and to the point for those of you that are worried. I chose to submit ours concurrently because that is the trend and a great deal of the time it goes through fine! April 3, 2023 will be 3 years for my wife. I don't see an interview  happening before then.

The risk is small but it does exist. From what I observed, lately USCIS focused a lot on N-400s, scheduling them way faster than they used to. It's a personal choice. For myself, I've decided not to apply 90 days early, whether I end up applying under 3 or 5 year rule. It's not like naturalizing 90 days earlier would matter to me 20 years later...

Not to be controversial, but:

In Jim Hacking's video the reason for the denial is not the timing of the interview. The issue is that the applicant had a pending 751 and the officer wrongfully denied the naturalization based on a pending 751. Wrong denial, of course, but nothing to do with the timing of the interview itself. 

On the Reddit link I see two issues. First off, by the time he made the post, OP's friend hadn't received the official denial letter. I have seen plenty of times where there has been a misunderstanding with what the officer actually said, and the denial letter fully explaining the reason.

In addition, if you read further down, OP explains what the issue is:

 

No, she had to apply again. They denied her application. Her case was special. She had a green card before she got married to a citizen. I think the online application tool assumes the applicant got their green card thru marriage therefore they have been married for at least 3 years which she hadn’t been she she applied 3 months early. It’s a rare thing but unfortunately for her she will have to go through everything all over again. She’s waiting a week to reapply just to be safe.

 

Clear as water and rightfully denied. When applying online, this person marked the option of the three year rule, for which you have to have been married and living in marital union for three years, which she hadn't. She had only been married for two years and nine months. 

 

Like you said, it's up to people of the want to take the risk, which, imho, is low.

Howdy y'all!

I have yet another question:

I have a stepson. On the N400 application it is asking me about his info, which I provided. However, when I do get to the "evidence" part it is asking me for his birth certificate and evidence of child support. It says "if you don't provide this evidence your application may be delayed". I can definitely provide his birth certificate, but of course my name will not be in there. 

Also, my husband is the one paying child support. I can provide the evidence that he's been paying, but is it necessary for this application? Can I submit it as it is and then provide it at the interview?

Being the fact that the application is calling for it I would include it. My wife has kids but she is not  paying any support as they are grown. It let us leave that upload blank. In either case you are gonna have to bring it to the interview whether you upload it or not.

Just a side note, the N-400 filing system will give you that warning for things that aren't necessarily needed. You can just hit "next" again to get through it. My husband's N-400 gave that warning because no evidence was provided for "evidence of name change". He never had a name change though, so it's not applicable to him. I was really thrown off at first because it made me think I couldn't continue.

I got a receipt notice about 2 hrs after submitting the n400 application. Now says approx 10 months for decision.
