Is There Such a Thing as Temporary Car Insurance for Beneficiary?

Hello everyone. I have a question regarding temporary car insurance. My fiancé will be visiting me in a few months, for about 2 months, while waiting to receive our NOA2 for our K1 Visa.

He has an international driver’s license. I apologize if this is a ridiculous question but does anyone know if temporary car insurance is such a thing? I work full time and he wants to be able to drive back and forth to the gym while I’m working. I was going to give him my car once our petition is hopefully approved and he gets settled down here. Is there any way he can purchase temporary car insurance for the few months he’s living here for my car? The car is currently in my name and I use it as well.

Again, I apologize if this question is ridiculous. I’ve never heard of it myself but he has been curious about it.

I think you could add him as a secondary driver on your insurance. I think he might be able to purchase some insurance (probably way limited and way more expensive as he would be a resident).

first read your policy coverage (or take it your agent) and ask if uninsured driver's are covered?

it is an option in florida to have this coverage

so,  find out if u opted out when purchasing the policy

Your insurance company can answer that question.

Can he not drive under your insurance?

If you can't find a way to get him on your car insurance, he could look into just renting a car. Some credit cards will cover the rental car insurance for driving in a foreign country.

Or he could just Uber everywhere.

In Massachusetts you simply need to add him to your insurance policy as a household member. As long he is listed he is covered. Question is will the insurance company honor his international licence. if not a rental may be the way to go.....

Progressive was fine with my German license. They even found out that I had two points in Germany that I didn't remembered and it wasn't bonus points 😂

But since every insurance and policy is different it would be best to just talk to your insurance.

Thank you so much for your advice! I will be calling the insurance company today and if all doesn't work out, we will look into renting a car.

If you decide to go the rental car route. Ask Dongyoung if he has any credit cards that provide discounts (or have him apply for one before he leaves Korea).

I have a great card here in Korea that gives me up to a 40% discount on Avis or Hertz rentals.

Avis are currently offering up to 30% off and a free upgrade on their web site.

Standard US hire car rates do not include insurance and it a big mark up earner for the hire companies.
