Hello! My husband had his interview on August 18th, 2021. As of right now, it’s going on 4 months since he’s been placed on AP. At first, the embassy was responding to us and our inquiries but unfortunately, they haven’t responded to our most recent emails. I was just curious to see how long this process has been taking everyone. There hasn’t been any status change since August 25th,2021 (when he was played on AP) and the embassy still has his passport. We are just lost on what to do moving forward.

He can ask the Consulate to return his passport.

How often are you emailing them?  Administrative Processing can't be expedited or waived, so frequent emails won't really give you much information..  You just have to be patient .  Good luck.

Yes, u can ask for your passport but if he travels outside his country after he did the interview,  it will extend the additional security checks to follow the  new travels itinerary

We’ve emailed them on 4 instances

first email was on august 17th - my husband was scheduled for an interview on the 13th and they sent him back home with no rescheduled date.

The second email was October 4th - that’s when they informed us he was in AP.

Third email - November 4th

And the last email December 4th

We’re afraid that by taking his passport back, they will just forget about us. We first thought that keeping the passport was a good sign

I was just following that forum. It seems that everyone has a different timeframe depending on the embassy. Sadly can’t find much from the embassy in Niger

No no, just to check on the current status and see if they required anything from us.

also his background check expired as of November 11th - so the most recent email was to see if they needed an updated one

Yes ,   everyone does but this 5535 is extensive for all

depends on how good the country keeps records

for the ds5535 it will depend on how much travel he has done,  to where

how many email ID"s he has had

and it asks for info on siblings and even their cell phone #'s

it is a good sign when they keep the passport

imagine how great it will be when he is approved and the government has done so much to check  on him that u can feel secure in the knowledge 'u married a good man"

I am not sure the checks extend to him being a good man.
