Within 30 days of December 27, do you have:

* international travel plans?

* need to complete an I-9?

* renew a drivers license?

* apply for a mortgage?

* some other event requiring a current I-551?

If so, call USCIS, say “info pass” and request an I-551 stamp on your passport.

So after December 27th am I still legal here?

Yes, your legal permanent resident does not expire, only proof of your LPR status expires. You remain in status and continue to have the right to work and travel, you just don't have proof.

The only way you lose LPR status is if an immgration judge cancels your LPR in removal hearing.

So if you don't need proof of LPR to travel internationally, for a NEW job, or to renew your driver's license you don't need to do anything.

So get an i551 stamp in your passport if needed, but no rush if you don’t have an immediate need for proof of your continued LPR status.

My wife recently (September 2021) got an ADIT stamp in her passport for travel.  Her extension letter had expired a year ago.  Within 24 hours of first contacting USCIS for an Infopass appointment, we were leaving USCIS office with the stamp.  It was painless and pretty fast for us.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

My extension letter already expired 3 months ago, and all my documents such as DL is about to expire in two weeks. How can I extend it, when my extension letter is expired? Thanks ahead if anyone knows the answer

Call USCIS and say "Infopass".  They will set you up for an appointment to get an ADIT stamp in your passport.  That will serve as evidence of your legal residence.

Thank you so much for your response. I called them and they should be calling me on Monday to reserve appointment for me to go there.
