we called the uscis today and the official told us on the phone that our case has been sent to the NVC. However, we didn't receive an approval notice.

Did the USCIS agent say when the case was sent to NVC?  If it was sent very recently, maybe the approval notice is on its way to you and the online case status just hasn't been updated yet.  If the case truly was sent to NVC, you will receive an email from NVC about CEAC case creation a week or so after petition approval.

this notice from USCIS is for the original petition and u it gives u the receipt #

not the notice that it went to NVC

When it does ,  it will say sent to NVC and then the information will be on the CEAC site for status

at NVC your case # will be for Nigerian embassy and you'll be able to check it there at:

Log into your account on the USCIS site and you will likely see a copy of the approval notice.

Check your spam folder, you might have an email waiting for you there.

Confirm your email address is correct.

Especially if your email address is not correct, I would recommend you call NVC to correct and get your case and invoice #s.

If all the above assumptions are wrong, you case somehow fell in the a big crack.

Either way, be happy that it has been approved and at the next stage.
