WORK while waiting for GC

Hi All,

 

My dad's immigrant visa was approved, and he got here in the US about a month ago, but the green card has not been delivered yet although the social security card came in the mail 2 weeks ago. Can he apply for a job without having the physical green card as we know his alien A number already.

 

I'd appreciate your input!

If you look at his immigrant visa you’ll see it says upon endorsement serves as a temporary green card (for a year, until his green card arrives).

When he fills out his I-9 for work …

his passport plus his endorsed visa is the sole list A document he needs.  
 

“Foreign passport containing a temporary I-551 printed notation on a
machine-readable immigrant visa (MRIV)”

Hopefully his green card arrives before his temporary I-551 expires. 
 

He should get his state ID now.  If he has his state ID then after his temporary I-551 expires, his state ID plus his SS card  are all he needs to work.
