I arrived in the US on a K1 on November 9th, and applied for my social security number today (December 9).

What should my case say if I check it literally an hour after applying for my SSN…? Just out of curiosity.

I checked it here (https://www.uscis.gov/save/save-casecheck) with both my passport # and my I-94 and was given information that it was returned to the social security office in Maryland, I’m in California and I JUST applied today. Should I be concerned that it was sent to the Maryland office and not the one in San Jose where I had my appointment? Is Maryland just the hub they all go through or has there been some sort of error I have to figure out and address?

Everything went fine at my appointment and she said she sent copies of my documents to homeland security for verification (which as I understand it is standard practice) and that it would be issued and arrive in the mail in 2-4 weeks.

SSA is headquartered in Woodlawn, Maryland, just to the west of Baltimore, at what is known as Central Office. The agency includes 10 regional offices, 8 processing centers, approximately 1300 field offices, and 37 Teleservice Centers. As of 2018, about 60,000 people were employed by SSA.

That's why it went there
