What if my EAD renewal isn’t approved before the 180 days?

Hi!

I am adjusting my status from a K1 Visa. Applied for adjustment of status April 2020. Moved out of state to from Maryland to Washington (which is to my understanding the slowest state when it comes to cases being processed by the USCIS).

I’ve had my EAD since September 2020 and it expired a few months ago. Luckily I applied for a renewal before the expiration date and it got automatically extended for 180 days.

In March 2022, it’s been 180 days. I have a full time job that I can’t loose. What is there for me to do if my renewed EAD doesn’t arrive before then? Can I do something about my situation or is it pretty hopeless?

Why is it the slowest state to your understanding, if there are pretty nice timelines

Because I have multiple friends here in the same AOS process where it’s taken them over 2 years to get the GC in hand. Additionally, EAD renewals usually takes 12 months while other states process that within 6 months.

EAD is processed by the NBC, so the place you live is not really a factor on the delay (unless they ask you to redo biometrics, then if the local ASC is backlogged, it would increase the wait time).

How far back did you apply for renewal?

Ah I see! They already told me that I don’t have to do the biometrics again. I applied in April, and my EAD expired in September. My 180 days are up in March.

u should get ur EAD before march 2022 if you applied on april 2021.

seems like the renewal take around 9-10 months now from the day you applied
