How did he lose his status? Did he try to re-enter the country and was refused?

Spending more than 12 months outside the United States results in a loss of permanent resident status. Then we applied for reentry permit at th US embassy and they denied it and told us to reapply for I-130..

Depends where you're coming from.  If it's Canada, Mexico, the Caribbean or Bermuda, you can enter on a GC only.  Anywhere else, you require a passport.

Now, I cannot comment on how the airline handles checking you in without a passport because they have requirements for the manifest that gets sent ahead of the flight to the receiving airport.

When I had a gc, and after my passport started filling up with too many useless CBP stamps, I stopped voluntarily presenting my passport to CBP at ports of entry.

Global entry only requires a gc and will reject passports of the GE member has a gc.

That’s not right telling the officer the child is American isn’t enough evidence, if u want a appointment date for ur CBRA email the US embassy in the UK that u have few days to return to the US and they will give u an appointment date n get the child a passport to return to US but have to prove it with a flight ticket

Tell the officer that the child is not an American is perjury.  I will not participate in a thread that advocates perjury or other law breaking.  Over and out.

US Citizens are required to enter using their US Passport.

Can the child use a baby transportation letter?

That is a long thread, the only thing I can think of that would fall into that description applies to LPR's not USC's.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

I don't think we could use a baby transportation letter. My child is an American. I meet all the requirements to pass on my citizenship. We have 6 children. 5 of them born in the UK. 4 of them have a CRBA from the London Embassy. I just need an appt, which is almost impossible to get.

Ask your representative or senator. They might be able to get you one for the baby! If the baby is a US citizen, it's pretty ridiculous that he/she cannot go home because of lack of passport.

In the case of the baby transportation letter thread, the OP stated that they technically qualified for the CRBA but it was denied for unknown reasons.  The end effect will be the same (child is a US citizen once they are in the US), but I am not sure if there are any nuances that may matter (CRBA vs Child becoming citizen immediately when they enter the US)

South Africa may not be a good indicator, seems a lot of those who got it were younger, had Covid before, not obese etc.

I can't say anything about your husband s re-entry. But regarding your baby, if you still haven't managed to get an appointment then you can contact them as a state of emergency. To get a passport.

I started the process and got an appointment but cancelled because I was no longer traveling. Im not sure if it would be a CRBA but from my experience they are responsive so you could enquire.

Yes but if the CRBA isn't done yet, she not a USC.

CRBA is evidence like a Passport.

But if you don't have one it's no evidence at all.

True, so for a USC to get into the US they need evidence like any other USC that they are a USC and can get a Passport.

Hence the CRBA. If they were in the US they would just have a Birth Certificate.

I believe Brits can enter the US now and child can get a Brit passport.

The child is a Brit and not a USC. She is only eligible to be a USC but is not recognized as one until a CRBA is approved.  Ergo, if Brits are allowed in the US, both the husband and child can go British passports. His GC should still be good though he may to give some letter of explanation for the long departure.  If immigration denies him entry on the GC, he should still be ok on his British passport.
