Local office canceled interview

Hi ,

I'm a little confused. We applied for my husband's ROC back in December of 2019. Case was finally transferred to our local office for an interview. We are scheduled for 12/15/21. We received a letter from the local office saying that our interview was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances or upon our request. That it would be rescheduled. The person who typed the letter also put September instead of December. What should we do at this point, we have been waiting for 2 years now. Case status does not show anything being cancelled.

That's what I thought as well, until we got the notice that our case was being transferred to our local office and then got the interview date.

They will either reschedule the interview or issue a 10 year card.  I would keep watching for status changes.

BTW, we have been waiting almost 3 years (since March 2019).....and we WILL get an interview since my wife entered via a CR-1.

Mistakes happen often. I would definitely call USCIS and make sure that the interview was in fact cancelled. You do not want a "no show".

Do not worry about being selected for an interview. Picture perfect cases get selected. They do this for quality assurance. It should be a breeze but of course, be ready to present updated evidence, etc.

I-751 Joint Filing.

06-15-2021 - Case was updated to show fingerprints were taken.

05-26-2021 - Received NOA/extension letter. Notice date and postmarked 05-20-2021.

05-23-2021 - Received text message with Receipt #. YSC Potomac Center.

05-21-2021 - Checks cashed (processing on joint checking account)

05-07-2021 - I-751 received in Arizona.

Marriage-based AOS - Concurrent filing.

05-07-2019 - AOS Approved. Resident since date 05/07/2019.

05-06-2019 - AOS Interview

04-23-2018 - "Case is ready to be scheduled for an interview"

03-16-2018 - Priority Date.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Did you have an interview for AOS? If you did not, then most likely you will get one for ROC. If I were you, I would call USCIS and request a call back from a tier 2. The catch 22 is that usually they call back after 30 days, some times even later. I would still call, and if you don't get an answer prior to 12/15, I would still show up with my spouse to the interview. You don't want to be denied based on a no show...

Just on the notion of USCIS canceling an interview “due to unforeseen circumstances” and following up on what ra0010 said, that happened to us for our AoS interview.  Thanks to the amazing wealth of information to be found on VJ, though, I knew that one could never be too careful with USCIS, and I had read reports of others getting such letter only to receive a no show denial after - understandably - not showing up.  Lo and behold, our file plus an officer were ready for us, and nobody even remotely mentioned the cancelation letter.

If you can, I would just ignore the cancelation letter and go to the field office anyway.  The worst that can happen is that they send you away.  Best case scenario (which is what we had): your case gets approved.

Good luck at any rate!

That happened to us as well in the Tampa service center, they had scheduled our AOS appointment for October 2019, and the day before the interview they called us to say the appointment had been cancelled, we showed up anyway and  were sent back home empty handed (we did make sure that a note was written in our notice stating that we had been there).  In December we received a new notice and had the interview in January.

We are planning on going because the letter they sent us says September not December. So we would have no proof of it being canceled. We are also hoping that they might be nice and stamp his passport since we are there.
