My fiancé from Colombia comes to the US in one month and we are scrambling to figure out what we will do for insurance. I always anticipated he would get a travelers insurance plan but now I'm skeptical of the legitimacy of these types of companies and if he qualifies when he isn't technically just a traveler or visitor.

I don't get insurance through my employer (currently working on finding a new job that does) and from what I understand he isn't eligible for coverage through the marketplace until he is a resident.

Therefore, what do they expect people to do in this window of time until they are a resident? Or even the window of time until they get married and get onto their spouses plan (if that were our case persay)?

We really don't want to take the risk of him being uninsured for several months. Any advice would be appreciated!

Marry as soon as you can

File immediately

NoA will allow him to buy through the exchange. Or be added to yours, assume you have a Co Sponsor?

One of the many issues with the K1

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Which NoA, one that goes along with AOS?

Yes we have a co-sponsor. The way things are right now he couldn't be added to mine (I'm on my dad's insurance plan currently) so he would have to go through the exchange.

The one you get from filing the AoS.

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.”

Travel insurance covers people when they travel and/or visit

its not for someone staying to live in the US

it covers:

  • Many companies selling travel packages also offer travel insurance.
  • Some travel policies cover damage to personal property, rented equipment, such as rental cars, and even ransom requests.
  • The main categories of travel insurance include trip cancellation or interruption coverage, baggage and personal effects coverage, medical coverage, and accidental death or flight accident coverage.
  • Coverage often includes 24/7 emergency services, such as replacing lost passports, cash wire assistance, and re-booking canceled flights.

you will  need to look at marketplace health care packages

Many K1 holders get married days after entering the US -if not the same day-. So the foreign spouse is insured almost immediately as the spouse adds them to their healthcare as soon as they get married.
