Well damn! That's a bummer. I hope they are able to work everything out quickly with it. Like you said, you weren't planning on traveling just yet, so we'll all be hoping for the visa before your intended travel so no (well, not as much) harm done.

Just wanted to say how sorry I was to read this post from you. I was so happy to read the other day of Tim's approval and thought...great, you so deserve that!!!!

I can't offer any advice because I just don't know enough about what you are going through. So when someone is held for add'l security checks, they take your passport? (I may not have answers...but always questions  )

I also want to say how well I think you are handling this....staying calm certainly gets you further with issues as this. But after waiting so long, it's easy to just freak out (as you are aware I know all about..lol).

Sending you the best of wishes that you are able to get to the bottom of this and through it quickly.

Don't give me too much credit yet - the freakout can still come! We'll see if the congressman's office can get any information. I'm holding all hard-core freaking out until I either know more, or affirmatively DON'T know (ie: am unable to know) more.

Thanks for the well wishes, all. I'll keep you posted.

Well Miss Daisy the only thing I can say is good on you for your present...oh shite, I can't think of the right word (I've been sitting here for five minutes trying to think of it)...positive attitude...no....critical thinking...thats not it...well, whatever the word is that you do when you analyze the situation with clarity instead of clustering over it, and feeling bad about it, and taking care of what needs to be done. I hope your congressman can be of aid to you and get some results to you. My heart is with you (as corny as that sounds) I am having a hard time with words at the moment, but I am thinking of you.

Do you recall what their "waiting limit" is? I saw you mentioned that in the other thread as well.

I had to wait for a name check as well - the whole thing took 7 or 10 days.

I'll take 7 or 10 days. 70 or 100 and I'll have a problem for sure.

Do you know why there was a name check? Was it just a usual one or some special reason for it?

They were very secretive about it, but it was basically a name hit. They had to fax it to

the States to run through NCIC. I looked it up on the net - found the complete manual

for consular officers which referred to the procedure as "Visas Something" (they had quite

a few names like that -- Visas Condor, Visas Mantis, but mine was something else.)

When I asked the consular officer, "is it visas whatsit", he said, "well aren't you a clever one!"

Slight update - probably nothing.

So I called DOS again today because it makes me feel proactive and figured, what the heck, worst it says is the same it says yesterday. I got the guy that Tiffany refers to as "Good Luck" - he's the nicest chap there I think, I almost said, "Tiff says hello!" ;) The conversation went something like this:

Me: Just calling to check on status, case # xxxx, name

Good Luck Guy: let me see here [type type type]

GLG: That visa is still processing.

Me: "Processing?"

GLG: Yes, still being processed.

Me: Okay. I called yesterday and the woman I spoke with said the computer indicated the embassy requested additional security checks. Is that what "processing" means? Like, did she infer the checks from it still being processing?

GLG: Well, I'm not sure.

Me: Could the computer say "additional security checks" as well as "processing?" Like, is that a separate possible item?

GLG: Yes, it could say either, that is something that could be listed.

Me: Hmmm. Any idea what processing means, timewise?

GLG: No, there's no way for us to tell.

Me: Well, just trying to figure out what's going on. Thanks!

GLG: Good luck!

Me: Thanks so much for your help, bye.

So that means . . . . uh. Nothing? Who knows.

How many prints did they take from Tim? Thumb and index finger or all 10?

He reports "all on both hands."
