VOIP - Great for International Plans!!

We just signed up for VOIP service for our home phone and the carrier, Lingo, has some fantastic international plans.

Examples, there most basic unlimited international plan includes unlimited calls to U.S., Canada, cell phones in U.S., UK, Germany, France, Italy, Ireland, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Switzerland, Sweden, Finland, Austria, Luxembourg, Vatican City, Norway, Portugal, and Spain. Pretty sweet for $20 a month.

It does NOT include calls to international cell phones and a few premium and special service numbers which they have listed on their site.

The first month is free and you can get a $25 credit if you use an existing customer as a referral so email me if you want my refer info!!!

This is not for everyone, you should have high speed internet but I think it's a pretty good deal so I wanted to pass it along. We signed up for the unlimited International plan for $50 a month and have been talking to Russia nonstop. The quality is excellent btw.

They sent me this after I provided my address:

Thank you for choosing Lingo. The address you provided as the physical location

where you are using the Lingo service ("911 Service Address") has been

successfully activated for Enhanced 911 (or E911) dialing!

If you dial 911, your call will be routed to the local emergency response center

and the operator will have the 911 Service Address you provided Lingo, and your

call-back telephone number.

They make these checks up front for you. They also have pretty solid plans to Mexico and Asia btw.

YAY!!

I'm all over the E-911; I sell Avaya phone systems for a living and it's something which we have to be aware of and the implications of not having it can be a little scary.

(Yes, I'm a little ####### about certain things :lol:)

Make sure you're wearing clean knickers. You never know when you'll be run over by a bus.

Yeah, from what I understand you need to provide your physical location to the operator on the phone if you don't have e911. The last thing I would probably want to do if I was in a true emergency. Thanks for the concern, I totally understand your view and agree!!

Now who wants Lingo??!! :P

Won't work for us. The rate per minute to Morocco is about the same as we pay through our current landline LD company. Like you said, it's not for everyone.

I just bought a Vonage router and sent it to my fiance in the Philippines. She now has a local number!! It is so sweet, she calls me 4 or 5 times a day at work! Not bad for $25/month. A LOT cheaper than the phone cards! For those that have broadband in their fiance's homes I recommend it!

Lingo has something called "Lingo Link" and it's a $7.95 a month plan. You can make calls between Lingo members only with this plan but I THINK you can receive calls from anyone. I have friends working at the embassy in Nairobi that are thinking about setting this up with a local number for their friends and family to call them (local call for family and friends). It's obviously not good for them to make outgoing calls from the phone but incoming it's like they are next door for the friends and family. Technology is cool....

yes, I have broadvoice, they dont have now E911 but they will have it soon. In case I have my local land line and a cell phone.

what happens if you need to call E911 and your cable is out cause of a systen outage. You cant call so better to have a cell phone.
