HOW I MAINTAINED BEING THIN AT 30

I don't think i'd even want to be that skinny

I'm 5'5 (And a half.. lol) and I am about 150 pounds, i'm quite happy, i'd like to lose a few... But not quite that much!

When I was 17 I was 5'5" and weighed 95 lbs. I was horrifyingly underweight. I don't have that problem anymore though. Now I need to LOSE about forty pounds. Luckily I know exactly what I need to do to do it; I'm an expert at losing weight. I just need to have a little more discipline. I've already lost forty so I think I'm doing OK. I'm giving myself time to adjust to life back in the USA...and having access to all that junk and fast food again...and I haven't gained any weight yet. Haven't lost any either but I'm trying not to obsess.

My husband commented last night about how every other commercial here is about a weight loss/exercise product of some sort. He said, no wonder everyone here feels bad about themselves and are always trying to lose weight.

I, personally, could stand to lose about 25lbs. I've been on and off dieting forever it seems. My husband always tells me...just live your life and don't worry about your weight so much.

Im 5'7 and if i weighed 97 lbs, id be in the hospital for an eating disorder. I think my 145 lbs is thin enough and it took me long enough to get here after having my son, so trying to get to 97 lbs is way too much work and way too unhealthy.

to the OP, one thing to remember, everyone is not asian with a tiny waist and genetics that allow us to be so thin we look good, most of us would look anerexic. and for our body types, we would prolly be anerexic at 97 lbs.

The advice is excellent. I don't think the OP was giving those advices so we could reach the same weight she has. That would be absurd. There's a lot of things to take in consideration, height, genetics, etc.

In my case, for example, being that I'm of European descent, way taller than she is, I work out a lot (muscle building), I wouldn't want to, or could possibly be that thin. I'd look sick.

My BMI says I have to weigh between 122 - 161 to be considered healthy. I try to keep my weight at 130 now that I'm 28 and it takes me a huge effort for that. I can only imagine weighting 97 if I was sick, in bed, my muscles degenerated, not being able to eat :P

I'm 5'3 and even when I was in high school and thin I was never that small. My body structure won't allow it. I did competitive powerlifting in high school and you never lose the dense muscle mass that develops so even now being overweight I'm compact, if that makes any sense. Like some people gain weight and it just goes all over the place. So I may weigh the same as another girl who looks much bigger than me. That's what I'm trying to say. I'm also well-proportioned. Part of the reason I gained so much weight is because of PCOS. I was never able to lose any weight until recently when for some reason I started losing weight. I keep increasing my efforts little by little-for example, I now have a part time job working as a server in Applebee's so I get a ton of exercise that way. Plus when I'm working I don't eat anything. So really, my body has no choice but to lose weight. So far I've lost about 15 pounds and I want to lose another 50ish. I won't be 97 pounds but I'll be back down to MY healthy thin.

Don't let the sunshine spoil your rain...just stand up and COMPLAIN!

according to the BMI, they say that someone my height @ 5' 8" should be anywhere between 122 and 164....

I have been down to about 150 before and I thought I was far too skinny.... I can't imagine going down to 122.... I would be a toothpick

I would be happy at 160  ...... I have a little ways to go before I get there  I have been hanging around the same weight for the last 2 years

i'm 5'8" as well and 150 was really perfect! too bad i'm a little above that now! i can't imagine supermodels who are 5'10", 5'11" and weight 120! yuck!

I'm also 5'3" and if I go down to 97 I'll disappear. I've always looked great when I'm between 115-125.

Also, hitting your 30s has nothing to do with not losing weight. Age doesn't matter at all even though some people say that your metabolism slows down, not true. People who get older get heavier because they don't move as much, not because their metabolism "slows down".

That's not necessarily true. If you were an overweight child you stand a good chance of becoming/staying an overweight adult but you're capable of losing weight at any age. It does get more difficult the older you get, though.

I know a man in his 60s who recently lost 50 pounds so it can be done.

I think at 5'7" and 28 years of age, I would need to remove my left leg to achieve that weight lol

Haha! My first thought too! At 5'10" if I were to weigh 97 lbs, I hope someone would intervene and get me counseling for my eating disorder!

So the FIRST step to maintaining 97lbs is to be born under, what, like 5'5"?

Age doesn't matter at all even though some people say that your metabolism slows down, not true. People who get older get heavier because they don't move as much, not because their metabolism "slows down".
Our body is made of millions of cells that undergo a variety of procedures everyday in order to enable us to perform routine activities and that is known as cellular metabolism. The cellular metabolism is in charge of one main thing and that is how to take the daily food and convert it into energy for the body by separating what are vitamins and minerals from fat and waste.

The Age Factor

Our body’s cellular metabolism slows down with age, which, unfortunately, promotes weight gain and, with it, many other diseases, such as high blood pressure, diabetes, heart attack and clogged arteries, to name only a few.

The BMI calculator I used states the OP is underweight but I don't know if they're taking frame size into account. I have a Korean aunt who is about that size, eats like a horse, and is perfectly healthy. White people just seem...I dunno....bigger. And hairier. At least this one is. *covering up arm hair*

To the OP, maybe you could tell me how do you eat everyday. I mean do you reduce the portion of your meals into a half or something ?. I have the same height with you but I weight like 105lbs. I don't know if it's still in BMI range but I know my fat tummy looks annoying :/
