K1 Visa Interview: Affidavit of Support Not Required?

Hello,

 

I would like to confirm from those with recent experience at a visa interview that the Affidavit of Support is not required for a K1 visa? Per the USCIS:

"If your relative is either a K-1 fiancé(e), a K-3 spouse, or a K-2 or K-4 child of fiancé(e) or spouse, you do not need to submit an affidavit of support at the time you file your Form I-129F petition. Instead, you should submit an affidavit of support at the time that your fiancé(e), spouse, or child adjusts status to permanent resident after coming to the United States.”

 

 

I recently accepted a six figure job offer after finishing my MBA program and will only have 1-2 paychecks by the time my fiancé has an interview. That is why I’m worried about the support form requirement, I’d rather not ask someone to be a co-sponsor,

Consulates are under the Department of State, not USCIS. Affidavit of support (form I-134) is required to be brought to the interview. If you can provide an employment letter on official business stationary stating how much you make annually/your position/when you started and whatever paystubs you have that would be good. Also tax transcripts are required even if it shows low income. What matters is current income, not past so you should be fine.

It is required for the interview. I suppose it's possible that there is a consulate out there that doesn't require it, but it was explicitly required for the interview in Brazil.

As said, you need to refer to embassy or state department website for the interview not the uscis. USCIS doesn't conduct visa interviews so they can't tell that requirement.

The AOS form is required for the k1 interview.

Depends on the individual Consulate.  I think Manila doesn't ask for it often.

You will want to complete an I-134 for the interview.  More likely than not, it is asked for.

For us for K-1 Mexico City in July was asked for, required, and checked as part of the pre-interview appointment the day before when all paperwork was reviewed.

• A passport valid for travel to the United States and with a validity date at least six months beyond your intended period of stay in the U.S. (unless country-specific agreements provide exemptions).
• Birth certificate.
• Divorce or death certificate(s) of any previous spouse(s) for both you and the U.S. citizen sponsor
• Police certificates from your present country of residence and all countries where you have lived for six months or more since age 16 (Police certificates are also required for accompanying children age 16 or older)
• Medical examination (vaccinations are optional, see below)
• Evidence of financial support (Form I-134, Affidavit of Support, may be requested)
• Two (2) 2x2 photographs. See the required photo format explained in Photograph Requirements
• Evidence of relationship with your U.S. citizen fiancé(e)
• Payment of fees, as explained below
