Kind of false equivalent thing. Eating animals is part of nature's plan. I agree it seems somewhat smacks of hypocrisy, but boiling an animal alive just seems unnecessary. 

 Yes it happens in my house from time to time but it still bothers me. Just for the record I don't eat seafood.

I'm kinda in the same camp.  I have watched the ritual, but never did the deed.

 

However, what is the better way for crabs and lobster?  They are kept alive because once dead they go bad quickly?  What is a compassionate way to kill a crab before you drop it in the boiling water?

 

Side note, here in the Philippines they sell big crabs by the roadside.  They are kept alive for days in the hot climate until the shell is almost empty.  My wife says they then throw them back in the crab pen to "regrow".

 

Personally, if I were a crab, I would prefer to be kept fresh and then dropped in large pot boiling water.  Death would be almost instant.

So how do you feel about catching a lobster or fish and throwing it on ice to die over the course of a couple of hours?

Suddenly, boiling isn't such a bad way to go.

 

I just don't understand people who don't eat seafood (unless it's an allergy issue).  Or ANY food, for that matter (except 9 Lives and liver, obviously).

I don't particularly like throwing them on ice either.  Not saying I have never done it, it just nags at me .

 

I don't eat fish and seafood becuse it tastes awful to me. I get you not understanding, you historically don't do well with people that don't confirm to your views.

@seekingthetruth, I have witnessed first-hand the middle video you posted. It's sad how humans have interfered so much with nature.

Though I do not understand why they call them "cannibals"?  These crabs only eat leaves.

Being from this state, eating seafood is a way of life. Needless to say the process of getting any living animal to your plate is not a pleasant experience, for the animal or for you, to think about. I would never eat squid or octopus though, as I think their super intelligence as a species places them somewhere unique.

 

As a kid I had hermit crabs as pets. Surprisingly intelligent, with unique personalities, and vocal cues too.
