Hello all

I would like to know if someone who is retired starting 2021, can be a sponsor of someone who is adjusting his status in USA.  The intended sponsor has enough income in his income tax for 2020 and previous income tax years. His only income right now is from his retirement. And if he can be a sponsor, which supporting documents need to be sent to USCIS.

thanks

It depends.  Sponsor qualification is based on CURRENT income.  The tax information is used to show/verify that the stated income is reliable.  Recent college grads can qualify even if past years taxes show low income by providing an employment letter and/or recent pay stubs as evidence of their current income.

If the retirement income is above the threshold, it may qualify.  If it is below the threshold, then they do not qualify.
