WHO specialists to visit Russia in December to review Sputnik V - RDIF

MOSCOW, Nov 24 (Reuters) - Russia is expecting a specialist team from the World Health Organization (WHO) to visit in December to work on a review of its Sputnik V vaccine for possible WHO emergency use listing, the head of the RDIF fund that markets the vaccine said on Wednesday.

 

The listing would mark a significant breakthrough for Sputnik V, matching the approval the WHO has already granted to eight other vaccines.

 

The process for Sputnik has dragged on all year with multiple WHO requests for submission of data and various inspections of manufacturing sites. The RDIF has said it hopes for WHO approval by the end of the year.

Katya told me today that Russia does not recognize any vaccine apart from the Sputnik V.  Her understanding is that you need to get a QR code vaccine passport to get into restaurants or grocery stores, and you cannot get that with any other vaccine.  Just wondering if anyone has heard of that as we were planning on heading there in March.

Yeah, they don't. Only Sputnik is recognized in Russia.

 

In November in SPB, no cafes or restaurants or grocery stores ever asked me for a QR code...in fact, I did not see them ask anyone for it ever. The only places asking for it were museums, theaters and other venues. I think in Moscow it's more enforced but it seems like anywhere outside of Moscow nobody cares. The QR code is mega annoying for foreigners to get anyway, you need to have a gosuslugi account, which most foreigners obviously don't have: https://www.gosuslugi.ru/

 

I went into the мой документы center while waiting to get my visa registered and nobody asked for a QR code there either, despite it being a government office. Same when I went to нотариаус and a translation bureau. Absolutely nobody was checking nor asked.

 

I guess just have your wife keep checking Russian news and asking friends and family what the situation is on the ground. From my experience, it was barely being enforced.

That's the best thing, Russia still doesn't even require vaccination to enter (obviously they can't since most people don't even have access to Sputnik) and it seems like the QR enforcement is just all over the place. If you've had a prior Covid infection, I think there's also a way to get a QR code but it's complicated.

 

Oh, if you go to a doctor's office in Russia: same thing, nobody ever asked me about vaccination or QR codes. They will make you wear a mask but that's it. Most places are not enforcing mask wearing, it's just sort of "wear it if you want" but in the metro there are security standing around sort of "enforcing" the mask requirement, but not really, as long as the mask is on your face more or less you are good. Most people in the metro were wearing masks but you'll see people without them, it's not really taken too seriously. Just for foreigners, better wear it in the metro because it's the rule and they have cameras sometimes and better to avoid any bust ups with the police over something as minor as wearing a mask.
