Every president hits a gas price rise and tries to look useful by "releasing the mighty US strategic oil reserves " which is at best a blip that the market has priced in. 

 

The only difference with Trump on this topic is that Trump pulled the SOR trigger $20 lower.

 

Let's hope there is no talk of restrictions on oil exports which would have an impact on supply, negatively.

That's NOT the only difference for those who are paying attention.  Trump didn't shut down key pipe lines.

05-06-2008 = Better $12 call to English-speaker; "joint" interview date 6/30/08 (my selection).

06-30-2008 = Stokes Interrogations w/Ecuadorian (not USC); "wait 2 weeks; we'll mail her."

07-2008 = Daily calls to DOS: "currently processing"; 8/05 = Phoned consulate, got Section Chief; wrote him.

08-07-08 = E-mail from consulate, promising to issue visa "as soon as we get her passport" (on 8/12, per DHL).

08-27-08 = Phoned consulate (they "couldn't find" our file); visa DHL'd 8/28; in hand 9/1; through POE on 10/9 with NO hassles(!).

Considering the SOR was only created in the mid 70’s, I don’t think every President has used it to mess with gasoline prices.

 

In reality, there have been very few releases the last being a paltry 5.2 million barrels in 2017 due to a hurricane.  Overall, this is a bad plan by Biden (no real surprise there) when we will have to replenish it at a relatively high price.
