We need to change the date for my wife's citizenship interview. Problem? What type of reasons are acceptable?

We applied for my wife citizenship about 6 weeks ago. We then received notice very quickly that she would not need to do the biometrics again because the biometrics from her green card would be used. It was our understanding it would take anywhere from 6 months to a year before she got her citizenship interview. Super happy to report she has an interview scheduled for December 17th 2021.

Here's the problem we've purchased tickets to go back to Brazil for family for the Christmas holidays leaving on the 12th of December. And of course we bought cheap tickets non-refundable.

Here's a question will they accept that as a reason for changing her citizenship interview date?

6/2005 we met in Brazil, I returned to US we stayed in contact.

9/2005 returned to Brazil asked her to marry me. :dancing:

11/2005 moved to Brazil and got married.

6/2006 daughter born in Brazil.

11/2006 took wife and daughter to meet my family in US.

10/2012 vacationed in the US 3 months

3/2014 2nd daughter born in Brazil.

11/2015 visited US again

12/2015 decided to start AOS.

4/4/2016 mailed AOS package

4/6/2016 AOS package received.

4/19/2016 received text AOs received and checks cashed

4/23/2016 received hard copy I-797c for I-485 and I-130

4/29/2016 received biometrics notice, scheduled for 5/10/2016

5/10/2016 Biometrics done, Nashville Tn.

5/20/2016 Received RFIE on I-485

5/31/2016 mailed response for RFIE

6/6/2016 NBC office received response to RFIE

6/13/2016 received notice that case is ready to schedule for interview.

6/22/2016 received notice for interview set for 7/25/2016

6/25/2016 received hard copy in mail for interview

7/25/2016 interview AOS approved.

7/28/2016 received I-797 for AOS approval

It doesn't hurt to ask the USCIS field office if she can get scheduled earlier (prior to Dec 12).

If there is no openings prior to Dec 12, then I suggest keeping the interview and contacting the airline to rebook.  Although non-refundable, they may allow you to change the dates with a fee.

Good news a quick phone call to our service center and my wife was just honest with them. No problem, will reschedule and receive new date within 90 days.

dont reschedule. people are waiting for years to get this done. You can buy ticket again. Instead of USCIS you should talk to airline to change your flight.

They rescheduled without a problem. I realized some people wait a long time but I depends on where you live. The field office in out area is not backlogged. It only took 6weeks from the time we filed for her to get an interview. Everyone said it would take 8-12 months. So we plan to spend holiday with family. It happens, we were honest with the USCIS. Good luck with you case.

Please keep us updated on when the new interview is scheduled. I think others will find your information helpful.

Which office are you going through?
