My wife lost her passport while the I-130 is in process. What do we do?

I'm a USA citizen and I applied a I-130 for my wife (Indian citizen) to come to the USA. The application was submitted in June 2021 and is currently in process of being reviewed by USCIS. Apparently, my wife has lost the Indian passport that was used for the application and is in process of getting a replacement from her local office.

With the passport being re-issued, the passport number will change and will not match the one used in the I-130 application.

What should we be doing in this case?

Can this cause issues/delays in the process?

I hope I don't have to start the process all over again because that will be a waste of time and money.

I'm looking for help because it seems like the USCIS call center people don't know what to do in this case and there is no info online. Thank you in advance!

Why did you enter your wife's passport information on the I-130?  That information is only required if she was currently in the US when you submitted the I-130.  It is important to pay close attention to what is asked by the forms and to study the instructions.   There will be more forms involved through this process.

You will need the new passport information when your petition is approved and is at the NVC stage, which will be sometime next year or so.

There is no info online because it doesn't matter. She needs a valid passport during visa processing. What you put on i130 doesn't matter.

Not an issue.  Enter the new passport details in the DS-260 form when the case gets to NVC stage after the I-130 petition is approved.  The passport info in the I-130 does not need to be updated.

Actually, careful reading of the form and questions tells you the passport information is asked for whether the intending immigrant is in the US or not.  However, it is not a problem to get a new passport during the process.  The same information is asked for again at the NVC stage.  No need for the passport numbers to match.

From the face of the form.

If the beneficiary is currently in the United States, complete Items Numbers 46.a. - 46.d.

Note that the passport number is question 47.
