My '64 Corvair has the old button on the floor to switch to high beams.  It also does not have push buttons on the AM radio.  Thankfully I don't have to drive it every day.

 

"A/C" is some great air vents in the foot wells, however.  Always loved cars with vent windows.

I'm also a geek who loves technology...to an extent. I got my first degree in an IT field. The more complicated the tech, the more that can go wrong. Basically, this tweet sums up my feelings about smart cars and appliances:

VERY true, as refrigerators today are failing at much higher rates than they were 10 years ago.  Brownouts and power surges tend to lay them to waste much sooner than their former non-computed peers.  I have a neighbor that is on his 4th refrigerator in three years.  I told him to hire an electrician to analyze his power over like a week's timeframe, as I suspect that is the cause of premature failures.

Several years ago I bought a fancy French door fridge.  Looked at Consumer Reports to decide what was best, and they listed the Samsung as number 1.  Bought it and just a few years later it had an "internal refrigerant leak" and could not be fixed.  That's when I found out the warranty was only 2 years.  NEVER again.

 

Bought a US made Whirlpool and it's been fine.

 

Had the same issue with an LG front loader clothes washing machine.  Every year or so something needed to be fixed, mostly water leaks.  Then the bearing that the drum rotates on went and I was done.  No more LG.  Bought a US made Whirlpool and it's still working great.

I will never buy a Samsung appliance, because my parent's experience with their washer/dryer was a mess. They wouldn't send out a repair person or honor the warranty. Had to trade it back for a Whirlpool. It's lasted for 15 years now. Just recently the dryer started acting up, but my husband was able to diagnose the problem and replace the innards for cheap. Still working great.

Samsung is paying out money for that very issue. 

 

 

I have always had good luck with Whirlpool.  I have an under counter Whirlpool Ice maker. Keeping on keeping on for about 26 years now.

 

Ditto with Sthil power products.  Cant kill them.

Completely agree, who needs a fridge, dishwasher, washer or dryer that also functions as a tablet.  My fridge was purchased almost 20 years ago and still running strong.  I also bought a second one, the cheapest large one I could find, 10 years ago, still running strong.

Funny story, when I was on the FD, we had a 1952 International Harvester refrigerator we used mostly to keep water and soda cold.  When we built a new station, the chief did not want us to take that fridge, so in the middle of the night, we loaded on a truck and brought it over and hid it in a store room.  Finally, the chief came around and let us use it and it is still going strong at nearly 70 years old.
