Years ago, our then-neighbor had a vehicle made by IH -- looked like a truck, registered as a car.  He was a geologist who did a lot of driving both in town and out.

Back to the topic.  It really seems these massive infrastructure bills are just an excuse for DC politicians to pile on the pork.

I will say that on my recent trip up north to WV I found the interstate roads needed a lot of repair.  There were holes that I thought could have ripped a wheel right off my trailer.  Sections of roads which were just patches on patches.

 

Fortunately the roads in FL are much better due to our mild winter weather.

I think trailers are a stationary preposition edit proposition in West Virginia, but point taken.

When crossing state lines, one can observe obvious differences in road maintenance.

Three years ago, I was on a state highway in Iowa and crossed into Minnesota.

The differences were stark (Minn. was worse).

 

In Texas, differences are noticeable even across county lines.

I remember driving I40 in northern AZ in January a few years ago and the potholes were numerous.  We also recently have been taking cross-country road trips and I agree, the quality of the roads (interstates, local highways, etc.) is quite variable.  I think that is the case everywhere.  State and local governments have the planning power, all controlled by the politicians.  In many cases, these politicians make these decisions for purely political reasons.
