Anyone have trouble changing your spouses name on the SSN card?

She already has SSN. Her K1 “expires” 16Nov. We got married on 6Nov and are mailing the AOS apps today 9Nov. I called the local SS office and they said they would not be able to process a name change because her visa expires in two weeks. That doesn’t sound legit to me.

K1 SSN name changes occur once you get your first immigration benefit as currently your immigration name (passport and I94) is your maiden name. Once EAD or GC are approved (ie. Your immigration name has changed) you can go back and update the name on SSN.

Or you don't even have to go back as you can apply for a replacement SSN on both EAD and GC forms.
