How long are SSANs taking?

My wife received her GC on the 9th of October. 3 days later we applied for a SSAN at the office. I was really surprised they couldn't just print one out there.  Ok, so they'll mail it. Fine.

 

A couple days later we get a notice that it might be a month. WTFO?

 

Then Friday a notice for maybe 2 more weeks. 

 

How long does it normally take? Although my wife has started work and was able to (with no small difficulty) get a bank account so she could get direct deposit, there are several other issues jammed up because we don't have that number.

Two weeks in the norm, however  Federal Government Offices are still playing Covid and that has caused delays.  You are on the home stretch for sure.

We're in similar boat, but we never received any notice. Got the greencard in September, local (Boston) SSA office is by appointment only, which requires you to snail-mail all documentation ahead of time. When they scheduled an appointment, they said that they need to request it by mail. We waited 4 weeks, called them up and found out there was a clerical error that resulted in our file just sitting there until we called (not sure why they didn't inform us). The clerical error has since been fixed, but another 3 weeks later there is still no word from them. This dysfunctional system is getting really frustrating at this point.

Finally got the card but it was over a month after the appointment. I was surprised it took so long. I really expected to walk out of the appointment with the card.
