Dear friends, :help:

Reading the successful interview experiences in Rio de Janeiro for the K-1 visa has been quite uplifting. I guess my interview is going to take place next month and I do hope to post there, too.

Please, please, please, if someone else from Brazil has gone through a recent K-1 interview in Rio, please post. I am going through a very difficult waiting time and that would help me a lot.

Whatever you need, contact me if I can help.

Thanks,

WellW,

You can also go look up reviews for the consulate here on VJ - usually there are a lot of details there about the interview as well.

Good luck on your interview! :D

Good luck to you going to Rio.

If you have all documents properly filled, no issues in your case and are completely honest, there's no need to worry. Interviewers for K1 and K3 are way more civil than those doing the turism interviews.

My fiance and I just went through the interview process in Rio on August 14, 2007. We were very careful in completing all of the forms correctly with the appropriate signatures, notary (where required), etc. and tried to be very thorough in our answers (even if information was duplicated from other forms or previous forms). I met her in Rio and we both brought original documents, copies and other documentation in case there were any questions. We arrived at the consulate, turned in the paper work for review. Waited about 1 1/2 hours and then had her interview with the consulate. We both went in for the interview, the consulate spoke to my fiance in Portuguese and to me in English. There were some very basic questions, when did we meet and how long had we known each other, where did I live and a couple others. During the middle of the interview the consulate cancelled my fiance's tourist visa and a then said everything was fine and come back in two days to pick up the visa after 3pm. I would recommend you arrive right at 3pm because we arrived at 4pm and were too late and had to come back the next day. The process and experience was very smooth and easy even after we requested an extension of time on the approval of the application. The worst part is completing the forms. Also, when you receive the visa you will also receive an sealed envelope that will be opened when you arrive in the U.S. We did not realize this and had nothing to carry the envelope in so I would recommend taking a bag or back pack with you when you pick up the visa so you have something to put this envelope in. Don't worry, if you have done a good job completing the forms and have all the information it should be a relatively painless process.

I went to the interview with my husband and it was very painless.

We were the first in line but because we had to leave to go across the street and make photocopies we were second to be interviewed. I told them that they could keep the originals, but they didn't want them - so make sure you have everything copied - and two of the DS-156K.

We were in and out of the actual interview in about 6 minutes. The CO talked to me alot (in English) - probably more than my husband. However, the interview was in Portuguese since I'm bilingual and my hubby knew no English at the time.

The CO wanted to go to Manaus - where hubby is from and I lived - so he talked a lot about that.

He asked us a few questions about how we met, what I was doing in Brazil, what my hubby intends to do in the U.S., what was his job in Brazil....

He asked no questions about my income, just looked over the I-134. He was curious about how long we were together before we started dating, but because my husband was so nervous he thought he meant how long did we live together. So, he told him. The CO seemed satisfied with that answer - that we lived together. He asked to see pictures and I had made a scrapbook so we opened it up and showed him the whole thing through the glass. Oh yea, and the CO wanted to know if and where we'd travelled togethere (maybe he was being more nosy than asking questions about our relationship).

It was quick and easy...

Good luck!!

Hey guys,

Regarding the visa approval... do we need to pick it up in person if issued? Or can we go back home to wait for it via post office?

Just wondering... I'm not from Rio. ^_^

Thanks!

I dunno if it's the same in all consulates but they offer you to pick it up or you pay a fee to get it sent to your house through post. I got mine in the mail.

Thank you! :)

Hard to talk to them and ask, whenever I can call, I'm at work and there's usually a 30 minute wait on the phone!

Anyway, thanks!
