I’m not sure if this the right place to ask this but one question is does the US embassies in the states allow walk in visits? The second question is if they do, do you guys think that if we would bring a report about our house fire in January in which we lost my wife’s 10 yr green card, would they waive the 500 dollar fee for a replacement? We would love to begin the citizenship process. Thank you so much. This site is so helpful.

I can't see why they would waive the fee, to be honest. I know it was lost under very unfortunate/traumatic circumstances...but it was still lost for a reason outside of USCIS's responsibility.

I have absolutely no knowledge of when and why they do issue waivers, so this is just me guessing by the way - but they're not normally known for their compassion.

I know that wasn't the answer you were looking for - and 100%, definitely try - worst that can happen is they say no. I hope it goes well for you 🙏.

https://www.uscis.gov/about-us/find-a-uscis-office/field-offices "USCIS field offices do not allow walk-ins. You must have an appointment to visit an office." Also, the Phoenix Lockbox is the designated location for filing Form I-90.

If you have a "demonstrated inability to pay" then you can also submit Form I-912 for fee waiver request: https://www.uscis.gov/i-912 "Forms Eligible for Fee Waiver"

Do you have photocopy of front and back of the lost GC?

If not, then after Form I-90 is filed you can file Form N-400: https://www.uscis.gov/sites/default/files/document/forms/n-400instr.pdf "If you have lost your Form I-551, attach a photocopy of any other entry document or a photocopy of a receipt showing that you have filed Form I-90, Application to Replace Permanent Resident Card."

The US doesn't have embassies.

Here are the steps to replace your green card:

I think the correct statement should be: Embassies do not exist in the US mainland.

US does have embassies, though not in the US itself.

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

Correct... I should not write shorthand as that could cause confusion.

The US does not have US embassies inside the States. OP would need to visit a USCIS office.

But, OP does not need to visit a USCIS office for a new GC. They can apply online or by mail.

File for replacement online. You will get a receipt within 24 hours. Take that receipt and upload it on your N400 application, if you are already eligible to file for citizenship.
