I intend visiting Nigeria in December , 2021. My Conditional Green Card is expired , I have also applied for removal of condition and I received

I-797C extending my green card by 24 months. My concern is, does the Nigerian Immigration recognize this document for me to return to the US after my visit.

Secondly, I am flying with Lufthansa does any one know if they honour this document ? I will need input and insight . Thanks

If they can read English, you will have no problems returning to the US with an extension letter and your expired Green Card.  If you are really worried, then get an ADIT stamp at your local USCIS office.

In summary, it took 13 months for approval of the CR-1.  It took 44 months for approval of the I-751.  It took 4 months for approval of the N-400.   It took 172 days from N-400 application to Oath Ceremony.   It took 6 weeks for Passport, then 7 additional weeks for return of wife's Naturalization Certificate..

At Crazy Cat , I already contacted USCIS for an Infopass to go and get a stamp but they were adamant that the letter given to should suffice.

An expired green card + an original I-797c with the 24 month is 100 % okay to travel with, airlines workers and US border officials are familiar with the document and are listed in the manual of acceptable documents needed to fly back to the USA.

No issues flying back to the USA from Iran with expired CGC plus the original extension letter.

You should be good traveling with your Extension letter + Expired Green Card.

That is 100% correct. Your letter + LPR card should suffice..

I visited Nigeria and my extension letter worked fine. I travelled with Delta which is typically easier as i've heard of people transiting through europe having issues.

If you are a Nigerian national flying with Lufthansa with an expired green card, you will need a transit visa!! They will not let you board your return flight with an I-797. Speaking from bitter experience, my husband had to buy a last minute ticket with another airline and ended up with a useless half of a round-trip Lufthansa ticket.

@stelgado apologies for replying late. This reply may not be helpful anymore since you are set to leave or already left. In my case when I had the 179 and an expired green card I was advised to use united or delta (I used Unite) instead of Lufthansa because they will require a valid traveling document or transit visa.
