Do I need to file I485

No need to file I-485.  Your parents will be permanent residents the moment they enter the US with their IR5 visas.  Have you paid the $220 immigrant fees for their plastic green card printing/delivery?

Do your parents already have their passports with visas?  Maybe there was a note in the delivery package reminding them to pay the fee?  Anyway, it will be $220 for each parent -- https://my.uscis.gov/uscis-immigrant-fee

I am wondering if we need to apply for social security card or it will be delivered as well.

Did your parents check the SSN box on their DS-260 forms?  If so, wait around a month after US entry.  If they don't receive their SSN in the mail by then, book an appointment for them at the SSA office to apply in person.

Hi there! Any idea how long it typically takes to receive the green card in mail after paying the $220 fee? I understand it should be received within 90 days but what is average time? how to check the status, is it printed or shippeed?

Thanks

No typical timeline, other than "within 90 days".  If the plastic green card does not get delivered after 90 days, log a request for "Out of Normal Processing Time".

To check the status of GC production, enter the IOE receipt number for the $220 fee at https://egov.uscis.gov/casestatus/landing.do

Thanks my friend! The website says Immigrant Visa Fee Payment Received. Does it get changed when GC printed? Isn’t it unusual for this status after 1 month? Thanks

USCIS has been known to not update online case status in a timely manner, so I suggest you don't get your hopes up.  In the COVID era, it is not unusual for GC production and delivery to take more than 90 days.

Check this thread for updates from other new immigrants waiting on their GC --

Thank you so much for all of the info that you guys have shared. I just paid for my mum's fee of $220 today. I entered her Alien registration number and IV case number correctly and carefully. Then I got a confirmation receipt that I paid but for an IOE case number that I have no idea. Then I entered her Alien registration number and IV case number again. It said that this person's case fee was paid. I hope everything was fine since I am at the airport right now with her, waiting to fly back to the US tonight.

Also, do you guys know upon arrival, how long can she receive her social security card upon entering the US for the 1st time? I already chose "yes" for applying her social security card when I filled in DS260. Can she work with a valid I-R551 (valid for 1 year) but without her social security card?
