CR-1 Approved - Married Online

I had my CR-1 approved yesterday at the London Embassy.

My wife and I were married on November 3rd 2020, we were both present together in the UK however married online through Virginia state. We applied for a marriage license and had a pastor who was registered in the state of Virginia perform the wedding. Application sent December 5th 2020 and then approved November 4th 2021 so 11 months all together.

Granted myself and my wife were present together when married it was still online, so hopefully encouraging news for those who have done it through Utah (which seems popular) and have consummated the marriage.

Congratulations!

If you don't mind me asking, why did you choose to marry online as opposed to in the U.K?

Were weddings not permitted at that time?

To marry in the UK as a foreigner you have to apply for a specific visa, so it was just easier this way.

Congratulations!  We are seeing more and more online marriages, and the fact that you were together during the ceremony which allowed you to send in the I130 as soon as you had the marriage certificate in hand.  I would only caution those that do this, but are physically apart for the ceremony, an in-person meeting is still required prior to sending in the I130 to satisfy immigration.

Good Luck with your eventual move to the US.

Ah~ I'm aware of the visa for marriage.

I assumed you and your partner both lived together in the U.K and then decided to get married...

So, the USC went to the U.K for a visit and then you married via Virginia? That's a great hack to get around the U.K system.
