Extending Visa/Travel Deadline

Is there a possibility to extend a green card visa's first 6 mo deadline to travel. My parents have received their visa in August, they have put their house on sale, but with covid and winter there is not much movement at all. They would have to travel by jan 29 and if they do not sell the house by then, they will not want to leave it. Since they are both elderly, i do not want to put them through extra travel unnecessarily - especially with all the complexities of covid -  just to get them step on US soil then travel back. Additionally i would have to travel home, bring them here, travel back with them and then come back home to the US again. Its just too much.

If it is possible, what papers do i need to process and when should i do it? Now or wait until closer to expiration?

I do not think embassy will re-issue a visa because of that. Unfortunately, they will claim 6 months was enough time.

Immigration journey is not: fast, for the faint at heart, easy, cheap, for the impatient nor right away. If more than 50% of this applies to you, best get off the bus.

The big issue is the tax implications if they sell their house after becoming LPRs

If your parents really cannot travel to the US before their visas expire, you'll need to call/email the consulate to request for re-issue of the visas.  If the consulate agrees, they will send instructions for your parents to undergo medical exam and pay the visa fee again.
