I am trying to understand the backlog here.

Before COVID19, every month they issued an average of 230 IR1 and CR1 visas. This is until Feb 2020.

From March 2020 through August 2020 they closed down the shop and issued none for these 6 months. According to this the backlog that is newly created due to COVID is around 230 multiplied by 6 which is 1380 visas. Say 1500 visas - (IR1 and CR1).

For Feb 2021 they issued 635 IR1 and CR1 visas and for March 2021 they issued 909 IR1 and CR1 visas which totals to 1544. This should have cleared the backlog created during the shutdown.

All the remaining months in the post-COVID19 - Sept 2020 through Jan 2020 and April 2021 through Sept 2021, they issued an average of 236 visas per month. This is just like before COVID so everything levels out for these months.

The usual quota of 230 visas each for Feb 2021 and March 2021 is what is remaining. i.e. 460.

This tells me that the current backlog is 460 visas plus whatever backlog they had before the COVID.

If we were having 4 months backlog before COVID now it would be 4+2=6 months.

Please let me know if I am wrong in my calculations 🙂

According to someone on the Facebook group, a large number of F2As converted to IR1 during the last year. Apparently, this added to the backlog. The process from DQ to interview now takes 12+ months.

You just confirmed my worst fears. Hope all of us get interviewed soon.

We got all documents accepted in August. I’m praying for interview in 2022. It’s been too long apart from my husband. I’m going  to visit for a month after two years apart. It’s a terrible system.

I hope you’re correct. I reached out to my local federal representative and they’re requesting that the state department give us an expedited interview or at least a timeframe.

I think you'll get yours in 2022 for sure. We're looking at 2023 unless they accept our expedite request.

Best of luck!

Two of our friends applied during the pandemic to come to US from India and both just got their visas. It took a little over a year. So they seem to be processing. I’m just confused as to why they can’t make it a priority.

Do you know what was their DQ date?

Thank you! This is giving me hope. Our attorney has been saying that she has no timeline and two couples who applied six months before us have not even gotten interview dates. Meanwhile two friends of ours applied during lockdown and have gotten their visas! I really hope we get an interview earlier in 2022. I hope everyone gets this, we have all waited too long.

We are added to the back of the line. Just got DQ'ed on Dec. 7th. Luckily I'm with my spouse in India, but hoping it is for less than another year. After 12 years in India, I'm really ready to move back home! I miss my family and friends. I read somewhere that they cleared a lot of 2020 backlog in Jan-March of this year, so I'm hoping they clear some 2021 backlog in the beginning of this next year!

I hope so too. I’m on eggshells hoping this new variant does not cause India to stop issuing tourist visas. Because my husband is Tibetan I have not been able to go be with him. I’m honestly hoping we get an appointment by late spring. Then I can go back an D get him. But we are so looking forward to my being there in February for a month…I hope you get your appointment soon as well.

Hii, I got DQ on 28 Oct 2021 for my F2A file

( PD: 17 July 2019) now i want to convert my category from F2A to CR1. Should I do it ? … I am afraid that if change now, they will mess with my already documentary qualified file and put it under review…

Can anyone please guide me ?

Good to know that good amount of visas are getting issued from last couple of months. But, I fail to understand one thing. If categories don't matter post DQ then why people over here post category related separate threads? For e.g. if I gets DQued on Dec 2020, F2b then is it possible any immigrant applicant( DQued after me) get IL? Thanks :)
