However, what we dont want is to get hit with a fraudulent student visa and we dont want her to come here for a year as a student and then leave and wait for a k-1 to come back and continue her study. So we aren't so sure about that idea as well.

The student visa is a good idea.  You should talk to a lawyer though.  You should have her come as a student, use that time to spend together and she will get an education.  It's really unwise to marry someone you've never met in person.  If you feel it will workout after several months, you can get married.

My understanding is that they have a 90 day rule, where if she enters and marries you immediately, they will presume it is fraud.  But if she's a student for more than 90 days after she enters, and then you get engaged and get married some time later, they don't look strictly at it.  You should discuss it with a lawyer though and make sure you do it correctly.  Don't assume you will get married.  Have her come as a student and see what happens.  You might find you can't stand each other in person.

Probably the only realistic way to get into China nowadays is on a work visa. It's become harder to get them, but it's still possible if your employer manages to get you a PU letter. I belong to several China wechat groups and other forums and there's a steady trickle of people that made it in. But that's a really long and possibly very expensive process meant more for working in China for a few years. But it is a possibility.

This is really difficult, because not only would I have to find a job in China, but I need a job in China in her city, which admittedly is millions of people, but is not a major international city like Shanghai, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shenzhen.  I wish I could have done that :(

You can probably find a teaching job just about anywhere from what I'm seeing. Might be worth looking into. Good luck!

Be careful about using the student visa as a pseudo-marriage visa. One of my wife's friends did that (married a month after arriving on an F1 visa, filed the I485, and quit school) and they got an immediate stokes interview lasting 1.5 hours. Though they were approved a few months after the interview, and ironically get to skip ROC because the delay in approval put them in the 10-year GC category. Not sure what it actually takes to get a denial 🙄

If you're okay with taking a break from your regular job look into getting a job as an English teacher in her city. One of the major companies in China is English First (https://www.englishfirst.com/jobs/)  I interviewed with them several years back and was offered a job after a week or so.... You can meet up see if what life is like together and then get married in China and start the visa process to move to the US or stay in China!.

Not sure what your job is... but you might also be able to work that on a part-time basis if you establish a good VPN. I have several friends living in China who work several jobs on top of their ESL gigs...
