Today's update for 21***:

1 RFE in upper range;

Nothing in lower range.

Today's WAC update for 23xxx range (as of 11:44 AM PT):

1 x approval in lower range

2 x approvals in upper range

USCIS logic is a mistery, as always.

Lower 22*** range currently looks the best. A few approvals there today also.

I would still suggest waiting if the service center is WAC, or if any of the other service centers come back down to less than 15 month at 80th percentile.

WAC seems to be regressing so it may not be long before it makes sense to file N-400 with a pending I-751.

He just released a new video, and seems like he doesn't suggest applying for N-400 anymore. Geez I wish there was a right or wrong answer and more clarity apart from that this shitshow is ridiculous.

To be fair, we don't know when he recorded it. Many YouTubers prerecord their content.

I think all we can say - it's a lottery.

@Olga&Jared somebody replied in thread about 48 month extensions that tier 1 told them to call back when their 24 month extension is about to expire before requesting 48 month extension.

I was kind of not a big fan of applying for N-400 because of "decision cannot be made" stories. However, the more I observe the more I see there are no clear rules or patterns. You should think of applying for citizenship if that's what your goal is. At least you could start online application (without submitting it) and gather all evidence.

That's actually what I've been doing this month. I have an ongoing application on USCIS website that I can keep editing till March 9th. I'm giving myself till then to see if there's any movement on my case because #painfullyclose and if nothing happens I consider filing. I guess my fear is to get into a situation where I don't have a 48 month extension and my N-400 is still not processed by February 2024 when my current extension letter expires which puts my job at risk. Am I still allowed to get a 48 month one after I apply for N-400? I need citizenship since any traveling with my russian passport is getting more and more difficult, and I haven't seen my family in a long time.

Unless your job requires crossing border, even if extension letter expires, you have nothing to worry about.

For I-9 verification, all you need is valid DL / state ID and unrestricted SS card. You can get both now.

I got unrestricted SS card in 2020 and updated DL in 2021. CA DMV gave me new DL expiring in 2026.

When I changed jobs last year, I told new employer I was LPR and provided DL + SS card. No GC was shown or asked in the process.

You should be able to get I-551 stamp or extension letter regardless of your N-400 as long as I-751 is pending.

Thank you so much for your input! I didn't know that. When I started my job I provided my green card since I got my DL later. But I do have an unrestricted SS card and a DL+state ID that also expires in 2026. Ugh you've just made my day!

It was after the 48 month extension was announced, obviously. And as much as I like his show, I fail to see where a pending 751 is an issue for N400

You must have seen messages "Decision cannot be made" on citizenship forum? One person described it as if IO almost lost his temper when found out about pending I-751 during N-400 interview.

Update: it looks like that N-400 got approved after delay:

So yes, not sure why Mr Hacking insists on filing N-400 after I-751 approval. There is a small risk of I-751 getting delayed because of that, but not always.

Yeah I’ve seen those messages. And while I do know that an N400 cannot be approved with a pending 751, I also know that the N400 cannot be denied because you have a pending 751. If anything, both cases will be pending.
And one officer being a …. Is not enough to say that a pending 751 causes issues imho.
In many, if not most cases, an N400 knocks the 751 lose

I have a letter coming in the mail today from USCIS, from the Texas Service Center. I'm assuming it is about the I-751 being transferred to a new office.

There is also a new "fingerprints were taken" update on the I-751, even though we already have that update. I assume the new office that has jurisdiction updated that as a formality.
