While I do agree completely that you should fill in your time line, something that bothers me is when someone asks a question, and someone responds with only a: "Please read the GUIDES" or "do a search." I think we were all new to this at one point (I'm still in the process of learning....every day I come on here actually)...so, yes, a question will be asked once, or twice or three times or whatever by new members. That is how a forum like this works. Heck, I've used the search on here looking for something and never could find what I was looking for.

I can't speak for anybody else but when I advise somebody to read the guides, it's because their question indicates they haven't and because it is critical that people study the guides, and form instructions. When they don't gain the needed base of knowledge this brings, they cannot possibly ask enough questions to learn what they need because they don't have the knowledge base to even know what they need to ask about.

We help each other here. The timelines help us help the person asking the question.

These people are NOT BABIES and spoon feeding them is not the best way for them to learn what they need to learn.

Dude, I love reading all of your post, you ROCK.

yes, to my mind there's a clear difference between wandering in somewhere new and saying 'please tell me all I need to know because I'm too lazy to look around a bit' and 'I've looked around and have some basic knowledge but now I need some clarification from people who are further down the road than me'

of course I confidently believe that my one or two questions since joining have been in the latter category... ;)

I'm impatient to get my timeline going properly; problem is, there's nothing to put in it! :(

The Very Secret Diary of Legolas Son of Weenus - by Cassandra Claire

Day One: Went to Council of Elrond. Was prettiest person there. Agreed to follow some tiny little man to Mordor to throw ring into volcano. Very important mission - gold ring so tacky.

Day Six: Far too dark in Mines of Moria to brush hair properly. Am very afraid I am developing a tangle.

Orcs so silly.

Still the prettiest.

Day 35: Boromir dead. Very messy death, most unnecessary. Did get kissed by Aragorn as he expired. Does a guy have to get shot full of arrows around here to get any action? Boromir definitely not prettier than me. Cannot understand it. Am feeling a pout coming on.

Frodo off to Mordor with Sam. Tiny little men caring about each other, rather cute really.

Am quite sure Gimli fancies me. So unfair. He is waist height, so can see advantages there, but chunky braids and big helmet most off-putting. Foresee dark times ahead, very dark times.

Hehe. Some of us hardly see any updates in cases so there wouldn't be much to update every 4 weeks or so.

I certainly didn't mean literal babies. I have read many of your posts and I think you are always fair and wise with your advice. I would consider you to be a patient helper with newbies and even 'seasoned' posters. You've certainly helped me alot, although I have never asked a question that you've answered. (Because when I was a newbie...I was afraid to post!) But I also did not join until after I had sent my petition. I wish I would have found VJ before. I'm certain my petition would have been sent off two months earlier.

when you've been here a few more months, see how many people ask, 'what visa do I need' or 'what's a touch' or NOA1, now what', many times a week. You bet a link is what will be posted.

Devilette-Even a cursory scan of YOUR first posts on VJ reveals afew of YOUR questions that are already answered in the guides or could be found on the actual USCIS forms or on other websites ( USCIS; the British Consulate...etc)-yet NO ONE just posted YOU a link and nothing else or just responded with " read the guides" to you and NO ONE who answered YOUR questions got as grumpy with you ( as a newbie); or complained about you as you yourself do with newbies and their questions now .

So fed up of seeing you complain all the time about newbies, when you have posted your share of what I feel are obvious questions ( but which at the time were not obvious to YOU). Same for newbies now. It seems obvious to us who have been through it-but not to them.

If newbie questions make you as grumpy as it seems from the way you write-why do you do it?

Take a large, almost round, rotating sphere about 8000 miles in diameter, surround it with a murky, viscous atmosphere of gases mixed with water vapor, tilt its axis so it wobbles back and forth with respect to a source of heat and light, freeze it at both ends and roast it in the middle, cover most of its surface with liquid that constantly feeds vapor into the atmosphere as the sphere tosses billions of gallons up and down to the rhythmic pulling of a captive satellite and the sun. Then try to predict the conditions of that atmosphere over a small area within a 5 mile radius for a period of one to five days in advance!

How many more threads are we going to have about this???

Ewok has done what he can other than hold every new members hands to tell them to read the guides and fill in a time line.

And think about it, alot of ppl who join are not USC's and may not understand alot of the guides or how to do the timeline, helping them out is not going to break our fingers.

"VJ Timelines are only an estimate, they are not actual approval dates! They only reflect VJ members. VJ Timelines do not include the thousands of applicants who do not use VJ"

IF YOU ARE NEW TO THE SITE, PLEASE READ THE GUIDES BEFORE ASKING ALOT OF QUESTIONS. THE GUIDES ARE VERY HELPFUL AND WILL SAVE YOU ALOT OF TIME!

Do not judge me, I am far from grumpy. :bonk: I never said I complained about newbies - so stop putting words in my mouth. Are you always so judgemental?

I believe your first few posts were just as easily answered by a search as well. (NOA1, address change, etc) But thanks for checking up! I would have LOVED someone to post a link for me actually, that's more spoonfeeding than answering it.

I didn't say you said you were grumpy I did say you seem grumpy and you complain about newbies.....Which you do. A look at your posts is an easy way to prove that. You need say nothing more. I am like every one else, I can only judge by how you present yourself here; because that's all I know. And you present yourself as very grumpy.

As for my posts, I agree some of my questions seem obvious now-yes; but you don't see me looking down my nose or complaining about newbie questions....and that is my point. We were all new with obvious questions once, and some of us seem to forget that.
