After DS-160

Hi

My Fiancé and I just received a noticed.

"NVC will now forward the petition to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate in Montreal, Canada. Please note that the transfer process can take several weeks.

The U.S. Embassy or Consulate will contact your fiancé (e)/spouse when they are ready to process his or her petition"

Also states "next" step is to fill out the DS-160 online. My question is, so do I the beneficiary after completing the DS-160 have to start gathering information, and or making appointments for the medical exam/vaccinations?

Im not sure what the current time from notice from nvm to actual interview dates look like right now and I'm worried that by the time i get the interview my medical examination might be "out of date" due to the backlog that covid-19 has caused.

Also does the Consulate provide you with a interview date automatically or do I have to call the Consulate to schedule one.

Thanks.

2 part question

u can do necessary vaccinations at any time

as for the medical exam ,  it is done close to interview as the date of exam triggers the expiration date (6 months) for the visa

Thanks. Does this also apply to the "certified police record check" because as far as i know it also has an expiry date.

Hi,

As has been discussed elsewhere in the Canada forum, we followed the instructions for Canada here: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/us-visas/Visa-Reciprocity-and-Civil-Documents-by-Country.html. If the fiancé lived anywhere outside Canada for longer than 6 months at any time in which you were 16 years or older, the applicant must also include documents for each country where that applies (see Reciprocity guidelines for each country).

We had some difficulty getting the correct police certificate at our local police station in Ontario. The type must be "Privacy Act" and not "Visa/Immigration/Border Crossing", but the clerk could not find the Privacy Act option. The problem with the "Visa/Immigration/Border Crossing" type is that the database search is not as wide and comprehensive as the "Privacy Act" type. We were sent the wrong certificate, and so we had to try over again.

Thanks to advice on the Canada forum, we finally had success by going to our local Commissionaires office, which is run by former Canadian Armed Services members: https://commissionaires.ca/en/region/select. We made our fingerprinting appointment online and we were able to choose the "Fingerprinting - Privacy Act" as the type of request during the online booking process. During the appointment, we asked for "RCMP National Repository Entire Holdings". The certificate arrived approximately 10 days later. If your K-1 petition left the NVC and its on its way to Montreal, I would prefer to have peace of mind and get the certificate now so that it's ready. For US Consulate Montreal, I believe the police certificate must have been issued within a year of the visa interview (see the bullet item for police certificates on Packet 3 https://ca.usembassy.gov/wp-content/uploads/sites/27/2016/07/Packet3Instructions-K1.pdf).

My understanding is that the consulate-approved doctors will not let you schedule your medical exam until you can show them the Packet 4 that was sent to you.
