Dear members,

I need some help filling out the I-485 form.

1.  A-number - My wife arrived in the US with a B2 visa.  Where can she get this A number for her?

2.  Blank space - some questions are not applicable to her.  Do I leave those spaces blank or put a N/A in it?

3.  Formatting - To fill out this form, do i use all CAP letters or first letter CAP follow by small letters?  For example, JOHN or John?

4.  Question 11 - USCIS Online Account number - where do I get this number?  Is it important to get this number?

5.  Question 12a - In Care of Name - related to #2, do I leave this space blank or put a big N/A?

6.  Social Security Card Section - I checked "Yes" I want SSA to issue a new social security card to my wife.  Does that mean I don't need to apply a new social security card thru the SSA office?  USCIS will ask SSA to issue my wife a new social security card?

7.  Question 26c - Status on Form I-94 (For example, class of admission, or paroled, if paroled) - I have no idea how to answer this.  I just put class of admission in this space.  No idea what it is asking.

8.  Question 26b - Expiration date of authorized stay  shown on form I-94 - is that the "Admin Until Date" on the I-94 form?  On a B2 visa, that's 6 months after the entry date, correct?

9.  Question 27 - What is your current immigration status?  This is a tricky question and I don't know how to answer.  My wife arrived with a B2 visa last year.  Her B2 visa expired September last year.  She met me this year and we were married here in the US last month.  I am doing this AOS for her.  What is her current immigration status?  No idea how to answer this.

10.  Part 2 Question 1a - I believe I got this right.  I checked family based, immediate relative of a US citizen for my wife, correct?

11.  Part 2 Question 2 - Are you applying for adjustment based on the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) section 245i?  I have no idea what this is.  Could someone explain this to me?

12.  Part 2 Question 3 to 9 - my wife is the principle applicant and her daughter is the derivative applicant.  Am I right?  I am filing their AOS together so I don't have the receipt number or priority date.  I am unsure about this section.

Thank you!

2.  Blank space - some questions are not applicable to her.  Do I leave those spaces blank or put a N/A in it? n/a

3.  Formatting - To fill out this form, do i use all CAP letters or first letter CAP follow by small letters?  For example, JOHN or John? preferably all caps

4.  Question 11 - USCIS Online Account number - where do I get this number?  Is it important to get this number? This number derives from having an online uscis account. If she doesn't have one, that's fine... n/a

5.  Question 12a - In Care of Name - related to #2, do I leave this space blank or put a big N/A? You can leave blank or n/a

6.  Social Security Card Section - I checked "Yes" I want SSA to issue a new social security card to my wife.  Does that mean I don't need to apply a new social security card thru the SSA office?  USCIS will ask SSA to issue my wife a new social security card? yes

7.  Question 26c - Status on Form I-94 (For example, class of admission, or paroled, if paroled) - I have no idea how to answer this.  I just put class of admission in this space.  No idea what it is asking.https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/#/home click this link and select get most recent i-94. Enter the details from her passport and submit it. You will see her I-94 detail. I suggest you also print this info as it is needed for submission along with the i485.

8.  Question 26b - Expiration date of authorized stay  shown on form I-94 - is that the "Admin Until Date" on the I-94 form?  On a B2 visa, that's 6 months after the entry date, correct? this info is also on the i-94

No idea how to answer this. for me, I put pending as she is currently out of status.

10.  Part 2 Question 1a - I believe I got this right.  I checked family based, immediate relative of a US citizen for my wife, correct? that would be correct once u r a usc

11.  Part 2 Question 2 - Are you applying for adjustment based on the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA) section 245i?  I have no idea what this is.  Could someone explain this to me? no

12.  Part 2 Question 3 to 9 - my wife is the principle applicant and her daughter is the derivative applicant.  Am I right?  I am filing their AOS together so I don't have the receipt number or priority date.  I am unsure about this section. There are no derivatives for immediate relativevs for usc'. They would both be the principal applicants... I stand corrected if I'm wrong

Thank you!

Are you a USC or an LPR?

If not filed already, i485 has to be accompanied by i130. It could be two i130s or one depending on your status.

Thank you Yan Yan.  Very helpful.  BTW, I am USC.

Question 26c.  I followed your direction and printed I-94 online.  I-94 online does not show the status.  The closest thing I saw is Class of Admission: B2.  Is this what I enter for 26c "Class of Admission B2"?

Part 2 Question 3 to 9.  Still have no idea what I should enter here.  Should I leave them blank or enter something here?

Thanks again for the help.

If she entered on parole, you would have put paroled. It also showed when she entered and when it's expired.

Part 2 Question 3 to 9.  Still have no idea what I should enter here.  Should I leave them blank or enter something here? what's this pertaining to. Please take a pic so you can get further assistance.  Also please ensure you are using the correct updated forms

Thanks again for the help.

Cappuccino, there are a lot of blank spaces that are not applicable to us.  Do you put N/A on all the blank spaces in your forms?
