Might also be a mistake on MTL’s end or by the computer deciding who is issued the DS5535.

 

Totally ridiculous for a 15 month old to be issued the form…

This has been reported by people in Johannesburg for Diversity Visa as well. So messed up.

US consulates have issued DS5535 for kids. Anybody can be flashed by the US security system for security clearance.

Is there a link or thread or something you could share to learn more? Ds5355 already takes time to process so if a child is added later, how long that takes? And if parents visa is expired until child is processed, what would be the situation? I am just asking for learning, so would be nice to learn about people going through this

I don't know of a thread. I've done a simple google search on whether DS 5535 is issued to kids and come up with what @Mashal found which is "US consulates have issued DS5535 for kids. Anybody can be flashed by the US security system for security clearance." 

 

While I don't know of specific cases nor can I point you to VJ threads because I am unaware, I can tell you that there is no timeline for the DS 5535 it is supposed to be done within 60 days but as you can see several members in this thread have been waiting for much longer. This is the case regardless of whether or not a child (or anyone else) is added later. I do wish there was a better answer for what you are asking because if there was an answer for your question  the rest of us would have an answer for how long our specific circumstances would take. But unfortunately, I am unsure if anyone can provide you with a specific timeline considering all of us are in the dark about that. I will say however, that it should be relatively easy to provide security clearance for a child. However, if you are finding yourself in limbo around the 4-5 month mark, I may consider contacting a lawyer to file a Writ of Mandamus which is a petition to the federal court to order the government to do its job and make a decision on your visa applications. Some members have gone that route with success in this thread, others are hesitant to go that route though, only you can decide what's right for you. I am assuming you, your husband, and your child are at least together? If that is the case, you are in a much better position than a lot of us who are separated from our spouses and waiting on the DS 5535 to be processed to be reunited (I am not downplaying how difficult this must be for you because I get that it is a difficult position to be in to be in limbo, but perhaps you can take some solace in the fact that your family is at least together). Adding your family to my prayers truly feel for you.

If these lawyers really wanted to help ppl they would just charge the filling fees (for Montreal cases at least)  and then if it went to court they would ask for the rest, but alas they want money like always.

Yes, unfortunately, that's inevitable...

 

It is like someone called it - a paid express service, which in my opinion has no place in immigration, especially in cases of family reunification, because those who can't afford to pay get left waiting for even longer...
