Is anyone else's passport still at the  embassy?

Also does anyone have a 221G along with the 5535?

I think your questions were answered above, but could you fill out your timeline?  https://www.visajourney.com/timeline/profile.php?id=396980

My interview was Feb 7th and they kept my passport. I am debating on waiting till the 60 day mark and then asking for my passport back and going for a visit while it sorts itself out. My only question is if I am in the States when they request for my passport can I ship it to them and have my family ship it back from my Canadian address to the USA or do I need to cross the border with the newly stamped visa for it to be activated?

You should never be without your passport while you are in another country.

since my moms medical expired and no movement in the case, i am thinking about asking for the passport back so that she can come stay with me for a little bit.

i mean either way now, once they are ready to move forward, there will be delay because they will ask for medical to be done, so asking for passport back doesnt really delay the process at this stage

USCIS

January 8th 2014 - NOA1

July 10th 2014 - NOA2

NVC

July 17th 2014 - Case shipped to NVC

July 30th 2014 - Case received by NVC

August 13th 2014 - Case number and IIN received by email

October 6th 2014 - AOS and IV Packages Received

November 28th 2014 - AOS and IV Checklist (4 items in total. 3 for documents they lost. Called on December 9 and a rep said no checklist for IV....go figure)

December 8th 2014 - Checklist scan date.

December 30th 2014 - Case Compl........NOT. So after not having an interview date yet, I called again on Jan 30th and apparently its in final review with a supervisor.

Has anyone visited the USA on a B-1/B-2 as a Canadian while they were in AP?

If so how was the process?

Yes, I did. I was there this year and the process was simple. Just like a regular visit to the state. Left from Pearson. They asked “who is sponsoring who” told them my husband is sponsoring me and it is still processing. They weren’t any follow up questions after regarding the immigration process. Just usual questions to ensure you will come back to Canada so you need to prove ties to Canada (job, school, etc).

Yeah that sucks. I feel for your mom. This is a great idea for her to join the rest of her family for a bit.

Sounds reasonable… better to be together while you wait. Hope it works and your family can reunite with your mom.

I have a theory they are trained to say that, in order avoid people panicking / having an outbreak while inside the consulate.

Edit - Outburst not outbreak…

Fair enough thanks for the advice.

Additionally, if you crossed before the visa is issued, you're in the US as a visitor.  So yes, you need to cross the border with the visa in the passport to activate your LPR status and be eligible for a SSN and to work and live.

Hello, new here but have been following this forum for a couple of months now. I interviewed in Montreal on Dec 3 2021 for IR1. Was given 221g for Medical (which was sent just after our interview as it was only 3 days prior) and then received an email Dec 6th to fill out DS 5535...this was sent back on Dec 10, 2021, as it was very extensive (my husband is from US and we had an extensive history in crossing the border over the last 15 years)...and we have been waiting ever since. Been married since 2008, have 2 children together, and we are hoping that we will hear something soon......😔

My passport along with my children's are all at embassy since Dec 2021, and I have 221g with 5535

Our passports are still at the embassy. Medical has expired. We will wait for a bit more before asking for passports
